first of all, to all those who say they were too far from seattle, i say BAH!
next, i finally got around to writing up a little story thingy about my trip for a newsletter my friends put out every month. here it is, with pictures.
Our Trip to Seattle
Principal Characters:
Kyle - me. also known as Kage
Nancy - my wife.
Faye - good friend of ours.
We left the afternoon of Thursday, May 25. The first bit of excitement came when I blew through a random four-way stop twenty miles outside of Logan at about 55 mph. Luckily, there was no one in the intersection, and no cops around. The rest of Thursday was pretty uneventful, until we got to Baker City, Oregon, where we had decided to spend the night. After securing a hotel room, Faye and I walked down to the gas station to get some beer. On the way back to the hotel, we met a couple of self-described "travelers" or "pirates" named Justus and Leash, along with their two chows, Lucy and Tonto. They wanted a place to rest for a little while, smoke some bowls, and take a shower, so we invited them back to the hotel room, where we chatted for a while, smoked some bowls, allowed them to take a shower, got rid of them, and went to bed. In gratutude for the hospitality, Justus left me with a small handful of nugs from the half-oz that had been given to him.
We left Baker City the next morning and finished the drive up to Seattle, arriving at the house of my aunt and uncle in early afternoon.

After resting and chatting, they took us on a scenic drive around the area, ending at Endolyne Joe's, a nice restaurant. The name Endolyne comes from the old railroad days, when this area was the end of the line. This restaurant, every few months, changes their menu and decor to certain themes. When we were there, the theme was Southwest food.
On Saturday, we got up and drove to the edge of Puget Sound, where we boarded a ferry across to Bremerton Island.
Nancy (l) and Faye on the ferry.
From there, we drove to Poulsbo, a small town settled by the Scandinavians, now a tourist town.

We went to the different shops, looked at the Lutheran church and cemetery, and had lunch at the Ya Betcha Korner Kafe. Nancy ordered the Viking Burger, with a garden patty substituted, Faye got the Warrior Burger, with a garden patty, I got the footlong Viking Dog, and my uncle Pete ordered a Garden Burger, with a beef patty substituted.

After our return ferry trip back to Seattle, we went to Pike Place Market to see all the shops, including the famous fish shop, known for throwing the fish at each other. This evening excursion also included a visit to the original Starbucks, complete with the original mermaid logo.
On the way back to my aunt and uncle's house, we were waylaid by the troll under the bridge.
That's me on the head, Faye on the hand, and Nancy on the shoulder.
On Sunday, Nancy, Faye, and I got up in the morning and attended church in downtown Seattle at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. After church, we went to the Northwest Folklife Festival, which was the main reason we came. Like most such festivals, there were many great bands, food booths, craft booths, and interesting people, including the Chain Gang.

Faye and Nancy gave some of their hemp jewelry to a couple of hippies in exchange for henna tattoos for the three of us. After we got back to my aunt and uncle's house that evening, we went for a walk in the woods, and as we were returning, we were picked up by my crazy cousin Chad. He drove us back to his house where we talked about 9/11, conspiracies, the government, and God.

We left Seattle Monday morning and drove all day, ending in Boise, Idaho, where we stayed with Stacey and Richard, friends of mine. There, we had some great pizza at the Flying Pie Pizzeria, where we saw a 179 pound ball of tin foil. Its target weight is 2000 pounds, which would set a new world record. We stayed up late talking with them about, among other things, dreaming and drugs. Richard gave me a whole bunch of mugwort. We left Tuesday morning to finish the return drive to Logan. All in all, I'd say we all had a good time.
