Ben Roethlisberger in a motorcycle accident

For those who follow NFL or paid attention during the last super bowl, you know Ben Roethlisberger is the quarterback for the Pittsburg Steelers. He was in a bad motorcycle addident this morning where he wasn't wearing a helmet. An older lady drove out in front of him sending him flying through the windshield. He broke his jaw, cut his head, lost a lot of teeth, and injured his knees. A woman ran up to help him and didn't even reckognize him(He's a huge star, in Pittsburg especially). He's in the hospital in serious but stable condition.

Insensitive to him maybe, not nfl fans, but yeah you're right about that. Well, looks like he's gonna be ok as in, might play opening day. His heads alright, and his knees should be alright. Hopefully he learned a lesson having his mouth smashed up and being hospitalized.

There's a difference between having two fake teeth and smashing your whole face into a windshield.

That, and I was being cynical.

And if that football fan ever looked here for some reason beyond the scope of my imagination, then I apologize.

...and my dad lost his teeth after crashing on his bicycle and having his mouth land on the curb... in case anyone was curious. (They fell out once when I was younger. It was interesting.)

I guess not many football fans here.... Anyways, an update. He's out of the hospital. Not as bad as everyone thought the first day. Messed up but he should recover. Just a good wake up call for him...wonder if he'll listen.

As a big Steelers fan, I'm glad to hear he's alright. The team is optimistic that he can gain all of his weight back in time for the season opener.

Have you seen the videotape that's been released where a doctor asks him, "is your name Bradley?"?

It takes him about 5 seconds to figure it out...scary.

He doesn't need to get too healthy to win. When you got the officials on your side it's hard not to win.

Yeah, I used to be a football fan, but I am caring about sports less and less. I just enjoy the irony that the person to post this topic is named "gameover".

They had their share of calls go against them. The called-back Polamalu interception is the most obvious example.

I've been a detroit lions fan as long as I've been a football fan, so I didn't have any bias watching the game. That was the most slanted game I have ever seen. The Seahawks outplayed the Steelers in every area and would have clearly won under normal officiating. Here's a good article on it.

      http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5310192

I've seen a lot of sketchy calls but never have I seen one game so riddled with bad calls going against one team. Going against the better team. It was a bad day for football.

Well, I had ridden motorcycles since the Sixties and was and am very familiar with American Motorcycle Culture, and so I can say with certainty, that from every frame of reference, that young Footballer was ridiculous. He crashed on a Suzuki Hiabusa -- a Sport Bike. There is no stigma preventing a Sport Biker from wearing a helmet. Indeed, because of the speeds attainable, even in ordinary riding, it is advisable to wear a helmet, simply to keep the wind out of one's eyes -- glasses, or even goggles (silly looking goggles) would be whipped from one's face. Yes, the Harley cruising crowd resents helmets, as their stupid Organization... the Motorcycle Version of the National Rifle Association thinks it must lobbey to the tune of tens of millions a dollars a year to guarantee the right of motorcyclists to be stupid regarding helmets, but their propaganda seems to have only taken hold among motorcyclists, who therefore suppose that protecting their head is to surrender their god-given rights to defy government tyranny.

But a Suzuki Hiabusa Sport Bike is not a Harley.

The Idiot Footballer apparently went out and bought the wrong bike for the lifestyle statement he wanted to make.

And riding around on some slow Harley might also have saved him the accident. Those cruisers are really too clunky and underpowered to get out of their own way. But the Sport Bikes, and the Suzuki Hyabusa was arguably one of the fastest even of those, are fast as warp-speed blurs... one just points and shoots with those things. that little old lady might never have seen him coming.... the way such things happen is that the Little Old Lady saw that her way was clear and decided to go through her left turn, and suddenly, 200 meters down the road the Footballer whips out from the left lane, from behind some sedan, to the right lane and gooses the bike to fly through the intersection before the light changes... BAMMMMMM! Just that quick.

And adding to the problem was that the young Footballer had been blinking away tears and couldn't really see. You can ride slow and almost see well enough on some slow Harley, without a helmet and wearing just glasses. But on a Sport Bike...

I think the problem is even more primative than the refusal to wear a helmet.

Many people that try to "live fast and ride hard," whether on a bike or in a sports car seem to hit the road with the assumption that they are in control of their own destiny. They feel that "oh, I'm no fucking amateur. Don't lecture me about safety. I've been driving/riding forever and I know how to handle my machine. Spare me your after-school-special counselling."
What they forget about is the fact that The Road belongs to everyone, and no one. You are only as good as your environment permits, and the environment on the street, especially the highway, can change drastically without a moment's notice.
The people that love to zip in and out of traffic in their sports cars don't think about the people that don't see them zig-zagging up behind them with their fast and furious moves, who end up changing lanes, cutting off the sports car, or clipping a couple inches of their bumper, and causing a 7 car accident, possibly killing some of the women and children in the cars around them that they were oblivious to just a second ago.
People on their bikes' egos are often fueled even more than those with sports cars. It takes a lot more experience to handle a bike, especially a 900cc or higher. I have to travel about 60 miles of highway I-4 every day to get to and from work. The amount of accidents I see on a weekly basis is f'cking sickening. These morons weave in and out of traffic, tailgating (even on bikes) within about 4 feet of the person in front of them, while at 85 miles per hour, just waiting for a hole big enough to slide between those in the lanes around them, so they can continue acting like they are burning up the track at Laguna Seca.
I love motorcyles, and I'm condifent in my ability to ride, but I think anybody ignorant enough to ride a bike that big and that fast, without a helmet, need to wake up and realize they aren't the center of the universe, and by this I mean before they end up face first through someone elses windshield.

I read that it was the fastest bike you could legally ride on the street. Who owns and rides such a thing without a helmet? If I rode a bike I'd have full pads and still be extra cautious. As if cars aren't dangerous enough.

Keep in mind that we're talking about a professional athlete here. What makes him great at what he does is his desire to live on the edge.

Was it a bad decision to ride without a helmet? Yeah, and I'm sure he'd agree with you. But his attitude is also what allows him to excel at a job that very, very few people can do.

I don't think "living life on the edge" is what makes a great athlete. And he's not exactly Michael Vick with taking chances on the field. He's young and he has a lot to learn.

Well, actually, whatever the horsepower of the Bike is, the weakest link becomes the tires. You see the aerodynmic drag at about 200 MPH (about 330 KPH) is such that it equals the traction of the tires, and so at those speeds the Bike begins to fishtail and float around on the rear tire. Now, imagine going about 200 mph (330 KPH) and you begin to feel positive control slipping away. Tokyo Drift at those speeds is more like Hari Kari.
