      storage advice

im gonna be putting some stuff in a storage unit for a couple years. it wont be climate controlled and i live in the deep south, where its pretty friggin humid, not to mention hot in the summer. so i wonder which stuff will fare well in such conditions:

      mattresses.
wooden furniture, especially things made of particle board, im concerned it might warp or something.
what about electronics- TV, VCR, computer equipment. can that stuff withstand such heat?

do you think going once every couple weeks and opening the unit door for 5-10 mins will help keep the air inside from getting too stale. is there anykind of air spray i could spray periodically to kill mold spores?thanx.

Your electronics should be OK, I would worry about the furnature though.

You might try putting in some dessicant in an attempt to hold the moisture down. I have a small container in my winery, but it doesn't seem to be heeping up.

As for the mold spores, I wonder if you can get some of those timed release thingees you mount on the wall that spay disinfectant? I use lysol spray on occasion to keep the mold under control.

i saw a website that was selling silica gel packets and other dessicants. can you find this kind of stuff in stores, though?

what about books. how well do you think those will fare?

Plastic tubs are great for books and they're usually not too expensive. And if you're worried about moisture getting to them in those, then you can always line the opening with duct tape. Those are great for storing a lot of stuff including books, bedding, etc. and you can get them in a wide variety of sizes.
