Just thinking about something now...:
If you are going to buy a guitar, get a USED one. Get it at like a pawn shop or something.
Reasons:
1: The guitar already has a "feel" and "soul", a unique sound. And it's already worn in.
2: They tend to not know how to price guitars. I had a friend buy a guitar at a pawn shop for $100 that was worth about $600 (mostly from age).
3: The choice is pretty good, anywhere from '60's fenders to last year's ltc.
4: You can find some pretty unique amps, too. As of right now, I have a local pawn shop holding a 100 watt amp with two 12", covered in red-dyed alligator leather.
