As I've been studying NLP for a while now I've found that it's more popular than I thought and I wondered if anyone on this board uses it (consciously ofc)?

Anyway, I haven't heard of neuro-linguistic programming. Can you give me a definition?
I find nothing wrong with Chris wanting to discuss NLP. Perhaps it belongs in the lounge though instead of Philosophy, so I will move it there instead.

I don't think Leo has any problem with someone wanting to talk about something off the beaten path of LD'ing. More with what NLP actually is (I looked it up and couldn't find much out about it).
Oh my god, they have a "NLP Training Centre" way too close to where I live. Their page, "What is NLP?" - well, I can't figure it out.
What is neuro-lingustic programming? I'm tempted to assume it's just the sort of "I will do this, I will do this" thing repeated over and over again like a mnemonic. But I am clearly wrong here.

You can read about the presuppositions of NLP here - I also say, these are to be challenged by yourself.
NLP doesn't claim that these presuppositions are necessarily true, but they turn out extremely powerful, in the sense that they will assist those who follow those models of the world in achieving more easily what they really want to achieve.
Sorry for double posting, I want to try and make things a little clearer for Leo here.

Well, not EVERY self help book (NLP also mentions how people tend to generalise) because i'm sure you haven't read every self help book out there. But yes, a lot of self help books have the same stuff in them, just written in a different way.Quote:

If you grasped the concept of NLP you would see that NLP is about developing your own strategies to find out if something works or not. Not strict rules which you live by.
I'd personally say it's more of just a self-confidence building technique than anything else, whether your gaining this confidence consciously or otherwise. It no doubt has some positive effects--although if you spent your life obsessing over NLP it most likely would not be healthy in the least.

On the contrary, I don't believe Chris ever mentioned paying for anything. You're obviously agitated by past experiences with it, which you've described vaguely, but there is no need to be so antagonistic.
