I have looked high and low and I figured it is time to ask for some help.

Here is what I am trying to do. I am trying to make an accurate version of the Wizard of Oz to sync up with Dark Side of the Moon. This will require cutting out a few seconds here and there in the video and just overlaying the Soundtrack over the top.

So, is this something that a video editing virgin can do? Can anyone give me some basic guidance about how to go about it? I do own the retail versions of both the movie and the CD.

Thank you in advance, if anyone helps.

It is really quite easy to do with the right software, especially if you've purchased an video editting package.

I hang out at www.videohelp.com sometimes, there is lots of good info there.

Basically here are your steps:

1) Rip Oz to hard drive. Try DvdDecrypter
2) Rip DSOM. MANY rippers available
3) Replace audio track of Oz with DSOM
4) Re-render video
5) Encode into Mpeg-II format
6) Create DVD image
7) Burn

If you had a piece of software like Ulead VideoStudio ($149), you could do it all with that. This is the one I work in often.

Else, there are a number of demo's and freebies out there you can use, it will be mode work, but it's free. Check out: Tmpgenc, DvdDecrypter, IfoEdit. It's been so long since I've done it with the freeware, that I forget everything that is out there.

OK, so... do you have to "replace" the audio track? Idealy, I would like to keep the movie sound track and just overlay the CD. I have seen a version that had the movie audio as the center channel, and the CD as the Left and Right. Would that be just as easy to do?

Also, when ripping the CD... I assume that you would need to rip it to 1 file correct? As opposed to several tracks. So that you keep the flow and keep the movie in sync with it?

Hmm, the audio overlay thing is a little mode difficult doing it the way you want.

I've not done anything like that, but you could encode to Dolby 5.1 and do something. The copy I have just has the entire audio replaces. You could leave bothe audio tracks in and mix them before rendering or you could put them on two seperate tracks and select them much as one would to with English or Spanish.

When you rip, you will get a directory full of files. The ones you are worried about are the VOB files for the main title track. There will be 4-5 of these, each one gig in length. They are really encoded MPEG-2 files and you will need to be careful dealing with them or you will quickly get trouble with your audio getting out of sync with the movie.

Thanks Seeker. I will look into it and give it a shot. When I run into problems, I will try to take note and ask you specific questions. Is it ok if I PM you about this?
