I was just thinking of Lucid Dreaming, which is the ability to conciously control your dreams - normally something experienced without the use of the concious mind. People have learned how to have lucid dreams at will.

The possobilities involved with the concious control of each and every bodily function are virtually limitless.

Take, for example, the control of pain by the concious mind:

Pain can be a useful function when you lean on a hot surface that is hot enough to be damaging to your skin, or when you break an arm. Without pain we may not be aware of the damage done, and any injury you recieve could be made worse over time without realising the damage done before it is too late.

But what about when a person falls from a twenty foot cliff. What use is it to your survival when you lay on the ground writhing in pain, with a higher risk of you going into shock, unable to control yourself. You may be a mile from the nearest road or town. The pain you would experience would be enough to stop you from getting yourself to a hospital. Just because you have one broken leg. With the concious control of pain, you could get onto your good leg and simply hop to somewhere where you could get the correct medical attention.

If you were to set your sleeve on fire by leaning on the cooker. You would normally run around, arms flailing screaming in agony as you slowly burned to death. If you had control over pain, you would be thinking with a rational mind. It would occur to you to take of the clothes that were burning and get to the nearest source of water.

There are a lot of other bodily functions that at some of the time could be considered simple irritations that have no real use. It would be useful if you could simply temporarily "switch them off".

Maybe I just sound totally insane, in which case you should ignore me completely and get on with not wasting your time in other topics.

You probably dont believe me but i can control adrenaline in my body. This power came from a freak accident in which a .22 caliber bullet got loged in the left hemishpere in my brain for over 2 hours. Ever since that day i have never been the same. All i have to do is focus on fear, like when you are about to get in a fight, and my body starts to get gittery. A scientist in Atlanta, Gerorgia took a sample of my blood and found that i had 1.6 times the amount of adrenaline as the average adrenaline rush. Scary, aint it.

And because of the accident, i have sparse, uncontrollable anger outbursts and memory loss. I also had to learn how to write all over again. NOT FUN.

Evolution does a pretty good job already, I'd rather put my trust in what it's supposed to do rather than try and control it myself.

EDIT: Heh, you're like a super hero. I've heard crazy stories involving adreneline, you could control the amount of strength in your body and like... have super strength.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

It would be useful. Also, evolution is way too slow. I know that it's possible to genetically modiy fruits to grow faster and even become shinier sweeter and more colourful. No, i'm not comparing humans to fruits, but isn't there the slightest chance that it's possible to increase the rate of growth in muscle tissue in the human body through genetic modification?

Maybe soon your muscles will tear through your clothes and you'll turn green. We won't like you when you're angry.

      Exactly.
Sometimes i use it when i weightlift, and other times in a fight, but that rarely happens.

      There is a drawback, though.
It is a phenomena i cannot explain. After i do this, my body almost completely shuts down. I find i have almost no energy and i start getting paranoid, followed by insomnia. You would think that having a tired body would help you sleep better, but anyone who has had an adrenaline rush earlier in the day, say form running from the cops, that it is EXTREMELY hard to sleep that night.

I have been screwing around with emotions to see if i can do anything else, but i have had no success.

I think this ability came to me because when i was shot, i was fully conscious (after 5 minutes of being unconcious) and i was having the biggest rush of my life (not a good rush). I couldnt see out of my left eye. I think the extremely prolonged adrenaline rush made it part of my conscious brain. Maybe.

"We wont like you when you're angry"

Ha. Have you read the Iraq war thread?

As far as i'm concerned, that's not a normal adrenaline rush. We once had to run uphill for about 200 metres as we heard sirens approaching (I normally struggle to run 100 on a flat area) after someone calling the police because we had a little brawl with some "out of towners". I got up there easy, and I knew that it was the adrenaline, because I wouldn't have been able to do that normally. I slept like a baby afterwards.

Well, actually it wasn't traumatic. I've had my name put down by the police before (they sent a letter round as a warning), he told me that if I was reported again he'd give me an ASBO. That's why I was so desperate to get away.

If anything it was quite fun, we were two streets away before they arrived, and we won the brawl!
