I'm new to laptops and when I turned mine on, it automatically connected to the internet using, apparently the neighbor's internet connection. I want to know if this is legal or not.
I know this is a newbie question.

If you have asked permission yes, but otherwise no.
But fuck that, free internet is free internet. If they ask, just say you thaught it was yours.
do the right thing and tell them what happend. If they are nice they MAY let you keep on using it, but can you live with it on your conchence if you dont?
Nah, I can live with it on my conscience. Lol.
I guess they should know all their information is available to whoever wants it.
I tried looking for information about the law. The only thing I could really find was, "The law is murky." I'm not interested in whatever is on my neighbor's hard drive and I won't use this for anything but browing some forums or checking e-mail.
it sucks for downloads... but for dv poaching wireless works great.
Keep using it if you must, I do it all the time. It is their irresponsibility for not encrypting their wireless network. This is the reason we have so much identity theft because people don't take the time to secure themselves so I say take advantage of it one less bill you have to pay for.
And you're not irresponsible basically stealing bandwidth that someone else is paying for, and what's more, completely and utterly intentionally? They did basically leave the door right open - and that's their fault - but you were the guy to actually go in and steal stuff. Not everyone is a whiz when it comes to such arcane topics as encrypting wireless connections. You could, perhaps, help them sort it out like a good citizen or, alternatively, be a pig.Quote:

On another note, Ne-yo, is your avatar Google being ravaged by the MSN butterfly? I think it is.
mine is unencrypted, but i live next to two old people and the other two houses the people are home less than half of the time.
