      Psychology Test 1: Conclusions Added

      A'hoy hoy,

First, thank you to anyone who takes the time to give me their feedback - it is definitly appreciated.

For those interested in my eventual personal study in the area of psychology, my interests are primarily in the subconscious mind and utilising it's capabilities. My tests and research I hope to eventually conglomerate into an entire source to display on the internet, and possibly a book of somekind (that most likely will not happen, lol).

If those of you whom will be venturing with me through these tests will be patient, open-minded, and understanding, we will all get along happier. I am not out to perpetuate my pride, I am not doing this out of ostentation, I am doing it to learn - thus, I am predicting a margin of error and hypothesis to be incorrect.

      With that said:

I am going to type out a little story. At the end of it, I will give a question, and I trust that answers will be given truthfully - no one will think any better of you if you think you answered "right" for there is no "right" answer.

      The story:

My friend Brian and I were on the bus to see the museum of Literacy which was located on a nearby idle island. While on the bus, we encountered another friend of mine; Marshal. My friend, Brian, waved to him with his newspaper and called him over to sit with us. We asked him where he was going and he said to work, his 9-5 job, as he impatiently guzzeled his coffee. I then brought up the idea of Brian and I's case that were studying about coactors influence on decisions they make within society. Brian argued with Marshal that he would not have bought his coffee if other people did not drink it, but Marshal argued that he buys it because he unconsciously believes that it keeps him awake and gives him the energy he needs for the day - even though he proclaims this. Once Brian stated that the coffee he was drinking was decaffenated and sugar-free, Marshal stood up and tipped his hat as he said he must go.

Now for the question, please respond with your initial response. Do not fabricate or think too long on it; respond with your first thoughts, even if they are nothing - note that you had no response.

      The question:

My friend Brian and I were going to the museum of......?

Did you temporarily forget? Did you have to look at it again? What was your thought process as you concluded reading the question?

Do not lie or fabricate your answer! No one gives a shit if you proclaim, "I have awesome memory and I remember everything." Ostentation is simply arrogance. Just answer with the truth, please.

      Thank you.

Do you want this in a pm to prevent lying or stuff? Cause I think that people would want to lie if others can see their response.

EDIT: Anyways I sent you a pm O'nus.

They were going to the museaum of literacy (I'm pretty sure).
I didn't forget. I knew pretty much instantly. The reason I remembered so fast was because I remembered pausing while reading that or something because it reminded me of something so that was highlighted in my brain more.

And this comes from an add type kid. lol

I remembered immediately. I'm not lying either, honest. Weird thing though, for some reason right at the beginning I instinctively looked at that twice. As if I knew it was something important. Again, I'm being honest... weird...

      Did you temporarily forget? yes

Did you have to look at it again? no

What was your thought process as you concluded reading the question?

first was wondering if brian was the right guy but i assumed that he was the one that you were on the bus with... then i just back tracked through the story with my mind... literacry kinda stuck out because i'd never heard of a literacy museum...

it also struck me funny... you're taking a bus to an island?

Immediatly upon readin the question my eyes flicked back to the top of your post, finding the answer. I then thought "shit, what if I wasnt supposed to look back", and then continued reading the rest of your post. And here I am.

My first thought was to look back but I kept reading and saw you say not to, so I didn't. I had no idea what kind of museum you went to, though I remebered right away it was on an island. I have to admit I am pretty sure I skimmed right over it because it sounded boring. I gave up right away because I knew I didn't really take a good look.

It took me about 5 seconds to remember the literacy part...

When I started reading, I was a bit confused about it been on an idle island, so I reread the first sentence and when asked the question, it came up automatically. The coffee situation wasnt distracting since it seemed pretty boring and unimportant.

      "Brian and I's case..."

I habitually point out incorrect grammar. This popped up in my mind, haha!

I found it a little hard to comprehend, but I got interested in how Marshal might've drank coffee just because other ppl do. I think that could be true, as well as unconsciously drinking it to stay awake. But anyway, that applies to me. I don't really do anything that's not being done by other people. Social instinct? Maybe

So these are my initial responses

Whoops, I didn't answer your question, Mike!

Museum of "What?" <--that's what I thought after reading. I'm not very crazy about museums or literacy. Maybe I had too many boring experiences with them! Does this mean...I'm doomed to academic failure?

      Re: Psychology Test 1

My friend Brian and I were going to the museum of......?
      I answered Liberty

      Did you temporarily forget?
No, I never got it right!

Did you have to look at it again?
      Yes, to my shame!

What was your thought process as you concluded reading the question?
I was still fixated on the coffee!

      Literacy

      Did you temporarily forget?
No It stuck out because I was trying to figure out if a Muesum of Literacy actually exsist anywhere.

Did you have to look at it again?
No because I figured I was right.

What was your thought process as you concluded reading the question?

I was thinking about the coffee but I couldn't shake the Museum of Literacy because I don't think that exsist anywhere.

      Conclusions

Yet again, I could write essay's on these, but I will keep it brief.

This test was entirely made by myself although influeced by Sigmund Freuds lapses in memory described in his book "The Psychopathology of Everyday Life" when discussing the frescoe's of the Last Judgment - I will ommit what he said for it is too long and I fear for lawyers hoarding my door.

Although I tried a different method of it and attempted at adding several little contradictory tidbits within, to test the extent of which I could create a lapse in memory. All within the first line are several contradictory or odd statements, and also a declared noun that I ask for you to recall at a later time.

Similar to this very well known test:
You are the bus driver; there is nobody on the bus. Your first stop, 5 people get on. Keep driving, next stop, 2 people get off, 4 people get on. Next stop, 4 people get off, 2 people get on. How old is the bus driver?

People do tend to forget that they are the bus driver, and then the answer is obviously redundant. This is because people can become very engrossed in the nouns and thoughts projected to them by the person or source that they will neglect the seemingly insignificant or contradictory statements stated before the "important part."

In this test I wanted to see the extent of which I could make someone forget things or neglect other aspects. In person, I would ask the subject to read the story, then take it away and ask, "We are going to the museum of...?" and then "Was there anything else wrong with the story?"

Yes, you cannot take a bus to an "idle island." Although, that is rarely noted. I chose a museum of literacy as it does seem rather contradictory or instigates the thought, "How could there be a museum of such a thing..?" Thus was my test to see if people would still forget it even when shown a profound topic directly afterwards.

Does it mean anything to you if you forgot, or had to look? No, there are no specific characteristic traits co-related to your actions. Upset that there is none? If you are, then there is one; you are an introvert.

The essential point was to test the short term memory of individuals.

More tests to come.. thank you for your time.

      Hope I've been enlightening.

By the way when I read it I didn't think twice about a museum of literacy. I still don't see why you couldn't have one. Infact I did a search for "museum of literacy" and apparently there really is a one.

You just proved my exact point; people are not sure whether or not you could have a museum of such a thing, and commonly whenever I would mention the idea, it would bring a look of confusion or, "What would be in it..?"

The confusing factor of it is exactly what I was trying to utilise and manipulate you to forget. Which, on the scale, did not seem to work - it is too pecuilar.

Don't know if it's to late to reply now, but I'll just do it anyway.
I didn't have any problem remembering that it was the museum of Literacy. When I saw the question I just thought about it for less than a second and answered to myself.

Thank you - it's never too late to reply as long as it is a sincere answer. Thanks again!
