Question

So today started out pretty bland. I had the day off and needed to cash a check. I went to my work, picked it up and then drove to the Credit Union to cash it. Its pretty cold outside so my heater in my car is on. I pulled up next to a jeep and before I got out of my car, I just barely smelt smoke. I thought "Damn, whats wrong with my car now?"

Then I look to my left at this Jeep and see what I thought was steam coming out of the hood. "Oh, I guess that car is over heating. That must be the smell" Then I look at the back of the car and see more white smoke coming out, and then notice that the intire cabin is filled with smoke. I shifted into reverse and shot back, jumped out of the car and ran inside the bank.

"SOME ONE CALL 911!! THERE IS A CAR ON FIRE OUT SIDE THIS BUILDING! THERE IS A JEEP ON FIRE OUTSIDE!!!"

Everyone stood there for a second ( I later found out from the employees, because I was wearing black long coat and shouting that they thought I was trying to rob the place)

Then the owner of the jeep runs out, opens the door to the jeep (feeding oxygen) and then gets knocked back by a wall a fire that erupted out of that door. He ran to the other side and JUMPED IN! Everyone paniced because they thought there was a child in the car, but he actually just grabbed a breif case...

While all of that was happening I was hounding the manager for a fire extinquisher, which he couldnt seem to find one (which is illegal btw).

By the time the I got back (the fire has being going for 20 secs at this point) fire was spreading throughout the car. Now there was no way an extinquisher could stop it, everyone ran behind the desk because the jeep was parked in front of the building which is entirely glass.

When it finally blew, the explosion stayed inside the car ( though there were several after ), but it busted the windows and at this point, you couldnt even see a jeep, just a pillar of fire and smoke. I whipped my cell out and started filming and taking shots. In the film you can hear one of the airbags explosives go off. But that explosion was enough to make me quit filming and step back. All of the stills are posted.

My car is the little red on with the lights on (same one in my profile). Had I been there just 30 seconds earlier I wouldnt have smelt that smoke and my car would have been toasting while I was cashing a paycheck.

Holy crap, WU! That's crazy! Awesome photos, though! Thanks for posting them.
I wonder what caused the fire?? Good thing there wasn't a child or a dog inside or anything. And lucky no one was hurt!

I love your car, btw

Wow. Crazy story. Kinda reminds me of when my friend's car got struck by lightning, like 30 feet away from us (loudest shit in the world) when we were standing under a nearby overhang. It destroyed all her windows, jumped over the car next to hers, making a tiny hole in the windsheild of another and fried my friend's electrical system, which killed the car, (somehow) causing her horn to go nuts and blare for about an hour, until AAA came.
Didn't burst into flames, though. That's wild. Good job on getting pics.

And on an unrelated note:

I wonder what caused the fire?? [/b]
When I ran in the building I got a glimpse of the flame and it was under the dash of the driver side. I assumed it was a cigarette or something of that nature. I later heard the guy talking to the police, and he claimed to have "smelt electrical fire". I dont know how you smell the electric part of the fire, but I later found out that these newer Jeeps are having this problem. So far 2 others in between my house an Downtown Portland.

I love your car, btw[/b]
Thank you. I love my car too. If I had to watch it burn, my face would be like this until the day I died.

hhhmmmm wonder what the guy had in the briefcase he was so protective of? [/b]
Yeah, the police wanted to know too, so they made him open it up. It just had random business materials as far as I could tell.

Thats one crazy story. Im surprized no noe got hurt. I had a close incounter with lightning once, I know how loud it is. But you know whats crazy? Everyone who was standing when hit struck, instinctively dropped to the ground.

Thanks for saying so! My ego loves you.

One point I wanted to bring out. Right after the firefighters got there I realized I needed to do an RC. But when looking back at the event, it seemed just like a dream. I reacted the same way, and it felt the same way. Its like the dream I had, except I got pictures while I was there!
