Okay, so a lot of you people like to read? Well then, I've been thinking for ages now that a book club might be a nice thing to start on this place. Perhaps on dream related books, but maybe not.

But anyway, I'm just trying to gauge the sort of support this would get right now and to get some suggestions for books from you lot.

So, anyone interested?

I read a lot but hardly fiction...

I'm now reading a book about astrology, one about the chakra's and one about shamanic fairytails.

Last books I finished were: True Hallucinations by T. McKenna & a book about the secret language of nature (forgot the author though)

Ummm - maybe. Though, I already have three books I'm reading at the moment. Depends what people come up with.

Really? I read it a while ago. Maybe I was impatient or something, but, I just felt it was a bit... barren, plot and character wise. Stephen's a good writer but, formulaic as hell and there's sometimes a bit of unoriginality. I guess I felt that in the Dark Tower first book. Haven;t read any in the rest of the series. He also has a thing with a "metaplot" that you have to read ALL of his books in harmony to get.

i think this is a good idea. -- i was hoping that it wouldn’t dissolve into a "i read so look at me" thread... but it seams that i'm too late.

so if you want to seriously suggest ONE book... PM me with the title and author and a reason it should adorn our bookshelves... and maybe... just maybe... if you're not a pompous ass who keeps flaunting every scrap of literature that you come across... i might allow your suggestion to reach someone who can do something about it.

seriously.

a book club is in the works.

I'll definitely consider it, depending on the book. Not a bad idea at all. Sounds fun, as long as i don't have 3 books in english (like now).

I love to read, but I go through reading phases. I read a lot for awhile and then quit for awhile. when I'm reading, I usually end up reading around six books at once, probably because of my ADD, ha. I usually go for non-fiction, like informational books, biographies or memiors. if I read any fiction it's usually classic.
right now I'm reading The Secret Life of Salvador Dalí by Salvador Dalí, Crossing Sexual Boundries (various authors), and when I finish those I plan to read Becoming a Visible Man by Jamison Green, The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene, and re-read The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. and I have a huge list of books to read all scattered around in my ADD mind.

basically SURE.

Sounds like me. I also have a tendency sometimes to start a book and forget it exists. Yaeh, I don't read for a month, and my parents get mad at me for not reading, and then I randomly read like three books in a week or two. When I read a book, if I like it, it is normally done within a couple days (unless it is very long, at which point it's a couple weekends, reading a few hours each). I totally avoid reading during the week though if possible, as I get into it and end up not doing what neeeds to be done.

Cool, I need new ideas for good books - though I prefer fiction over non-fiction.

I would like it. How would we pick the book? We should pick things that will help LD. I like fiction especially SF but also fantasy; I read a lot of non-fiction too.

(Has anyone read "Never Let Me Go" (highly recommended--brought tears to my eyes) by Kazuo Ishiguro who also wrote "Remains of the Day" which I have but have not read yet.)

so, is it a case of someone picks a book, and we all try to read it, and talk about it here?

You can pick the first book since it is your idea.

i'm thinking we might be able to make a 'group' with a private forum for discussions... so we don't discuss them all in a single thread. maybe maybe.

I really like to read, but my time for reading is limited during the school year. If everyone decides to I'll drop in whenever I have time.

Hey I've been wanting to ask you D. who is that in your profile picture?

I'm in the same boat as a couple others here, love to read but start like 3 books at a time, then forget about them, then go back, then forget. I don't know why, I used to be such a huge bookworm, and in the last few years it's really become a struggle to focus on one book and then to actually get around to finishing it. I don't know how committed I would be, but I would love to try. Maybe if I knew others were reading the same book and we were going to discuss it, it would help me get my ass in gear. Soooooo.................yeah, I'm in.
