That blackening, paralyzing, (and warm and fuzzy) feeling :)

Ok, you all know this feeling I'm sure. I'll describe it more. Does anyone know if it has a name? Say like your sitting at a computer for hours, or watching tv for hours, or crouching for [half] hours, AND THEN YOU STAND UP! and you feel like you're gonna faint!

I love that feeling! It's awesome in my opinion and I always try to catalyze it and prolong it, or make it more severe. I've never actually passed out from it (dangit), but it's like being on drugs or something almost. Yeah, this is a pretty useless topic, but I think it's one that considers some serious discussion none-the-less.

My friend and I have held our breaths for about 3 minutes (he can go much longer) AND THEN STOOD UP! but it didn't really work as well as one would think. Yes, a weak natural high is all this is.

yeah it's just a head rush. i don't know why it does that. maybe the blood pools in you brain because you've been sitting on your asssss too long. but that's just a theory.

The dream is real, my friends. The failure to realize it is the only unreality.

That feeling happens to me a lot. I personally find it very annoying because whne I get up, I'm usually trying to get somewhere, or at least walk in a straight line. I don't see black fading in, it is a light color, almost white. When I almost passed out, I also saw white, my guess is that the feeling is like you are on the verge of passing out before your blood flow resets it self and you can see straight.

I'm not too sure what happens, but this is my crack at it. When you are sitting down or laying down, your heart has to exert a little more energy to get the blood down to your legs. Normally the pull of gravity helps move your blood down to your legs. The return trip is easier, but by then it isn't so much your heart pumping but more like your veins pumping your blood back up (I'm not sure if this part is right, I think that's what my professor said, but I don't remember anymore). When you stand up the blood rushes down to your legs faster than it should. Because there is more blood in your legs, there must be less going to your brain. This would result in a brief period with a lack of oxygen in your brain. The lack of oxygen causes you to pass out, except your body quickly corrects your self and you can walk straight again. You can also pass out if you lock your legs and stand still, but I think this is because your muscles aren't moving enough to push blood back to your heart.
I am not sure if this is right and I am making a few assumptions. Does anyone know if I am correct or just making up lies?

No, I’ve heard about the leg-locking effect from a teacher before actually. He/she had a story about some band kid standing at an awards ceromony and he fell over cold. I think it’d be pretty neat to have this happen... Usually your short term memory gets erased when you pass out, from what I’ve seen.

I’ve deliberately tried to make my legs go asleep (stupid English idioms..). I’ve gotten pretty far with it, to the point that I can cut my surface skin and not feel it, not being able to move any toes or my ankle, and it’s a great time standing up and walking around with your legs asleep like that. Great time indeed...

I know that you can pass out when you lock your legs. I might have been one of those band kids that passed out while standing during a ceromony. Lucky someone nocticed me swaying around before I fell. I just wasn't sure if the lack of muscle movement was the cause of fainting...

You can get the same effect, except more intense, this way:

Sit down in a chair, lean down as far as you can so you are looking at the ground under the chair. Keep this position for 30 seconds while taking deep breaths. Then stand up really quick.

Warning: It is extremely easy to faint while attempting this, but you do get a really powerful headrush is you do it right.

Lol next someone is going to say that they like that numbing feeling in your arms after you find out that you been sleeping on it.

It wasn't a band assembly or such but that happened to me once too. Everyone was singing the national anthem and, since early in the morning I was feeling sort of dizzy, perhaps had low pressure that day. In the middle of the anthem I fainted backwards, luckily falling in the guy behind me's shoes. Fun part was while I was unconscious I was kind of dreaming that I was in bed and had to wake up. It was then that I came to and suddenly saw my whole school gathering in a circle above me.

      It was a fun experience...

Another time I fainted and fell on my dog...
Another time I was at the gym and fainted in one of the bicycles...
      Fainting is fun...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

AHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAA!!!! last night i was talking to a friend in the UK. he had his webcam on so i could see everything he was doing. it was like 4:15 am for him. he said he was really bored, and i explained the pass out game to him. he's like "alright, ill give it a try." He goes and sits on his bed (i could only see his legs when he was sitting on his bed). and then about 35 seconds later he stands up, and then he crashed down onto the some pillows on his desk. immediately im like "oh sh*t, your serious?!". his maybe twitches. he's got me amazed... he's laying there not moving for about a minute. then he starts waking up. he is very disoriented and confused. im still asking if he's messing with me. he gives a strange look at the monitor. he says "hey how did i get online?". i told him he passed out. he gets this really confused look on his face. he said "what? how would you know? its not like you can see into my room...". i told him his webcam was on. he looks into his webcam and he gets the funniest expression ever, it was like he saw a ghost. "WTF?!" he says. i told him "dude, you just passed out!". he said "what?... no, i just got back from the bathroom." (he's still rubbing his head). i told him "nope, you lost your short term memory from when you passed out!". he gives another awkward look." i asked him what his exact thoughts and movements were when he was in the bathroom and after he got out of the bathroom. he sits there thinking for a moment, and then he says he floated to his bed. at that point i had him convinced, and for the next 15 minutes we're talking about it and what he did. i have the entire conversation from when he had his memory, and when he didnt have his memory. its pretty interesting to look at. if anybody wants to see it just pm me and ill email it to you, or if somebody was nice enough to host it for me

I was doing random "body tricks" with some friends last night, since we were pretty bored. It started out as the "Falling through the floor trick" where you have someone lay on the floor face down and then you lift up their arms and the top half of their body and let them hang there for like a minute with their eyes closed. Then you slowly let them down and for them it feels like they are falling through the floor. We also did the arms in the doorway trick, where you stand in a doorway and press your arms outward against it for like a minute and when you step out your arms uncontrollably lift up and you can't put them down. Last, we did the pass out game, which was really funny.

You probably need to rush up faster.

I never fainted before, what's it like? Kinda like being asleep or something?
