      17 year Cicada

      As many of you know, this year, Brood-X of the 17 year periodic cicada emerges.

      Some people mix up a cicada with a locust. Which are totally differant.
      What the hell is there point. They are only out for, a week or so. then back into the ground for another 17 years. What a life.

      we dont get the 17 yr kind here in Vegas...we have cicada, but they are 2 year or something shorter...they come out almost every summer

      We have the ones that are out every summer, they are green with kind of yellowish eyes. We also have the 13 year variety, they are kind of black with red eyes, and we have the 17 year variety.

      Oh man, in Cincinnati we're going to be plagued, says the weatherman. It's raining all this week, which means they're coming up soon.

      I hate cicadas! they're so big and scary, even though they don't bite or sting or anything.

      i think it's hilarious that people haven't heard of cicadas... I've grown up in an area with cicadas all my life, and i didn't realize that they weren't everywhere....

      I haven't seen them out around here yet. My guess is within two weeks because we have been having really warm and wet weather. I don't think I could stomach one, but how would you cook one? I heard they taste really good....
