Thread: Virginia College Shootings

It's horrifying. That could have been any college. It was the largest shooting to date.

Just up the road from me. I knew a professor there, but by now he should have retired. Being an engineering school, I expect that the shooter had everthing planned out pretty well when he began, which may explain the 2 hours.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families and the community. What a senseless tragedy.

I'll reserve my comments on how and why this could happen for another time and place.

i dreamed about a school shooting..woke up to hear about it on the news a couple hrs later...some of the stuff in my dream kinda represents what took place..u can read about it on the general lucid discussion forum

Really disgusting, it really could have been any school that this happened in, getting back from college to see this on the news.

I'm also bothered by the fact that the bullets hardly stopped flying, but when I turn on the news to see what happened, I see the face of the demogauge Jack Thompson sneaking into the news as a "school shooting expert" to trick people (like my aunt) into thinking that the gunman was a video game fan by using double talk before they could even identify the gunman.

It was probably pretty fun doing the shooting, minus the dying/jail part.

And I don't think the guns are to be blamed. People kill people, not guns.

Ugh, I hate that guy with a passion. I agree (to a minute point) that violent Video Games can cause aggression in people, but holy hell. The guy is a nut, spreading bullshit, and whats worse is some other idiots actually buy his crap! Its like Columbine. The guys enjoyed Doom, so immediately that is to blame! Just because someone goes on a killing spree doesn't automatically relate it to video games. But thats another debate for another time.

Of course it matters that I don't know them personally. If I don't know them they are worthless to me, simple as that. Them being humans is not a valid enough reason that makes them valuable by default.

A) Shooting people may be really fun and cool! In movies! And in videogames! And in your dreams! In real life, only a mentally deranged retard would enjoy it.

B) Besides that, I feel bad for the people.

C) "Guns don't kill, blablabla". Yes, but they do make it a hell of a lot more easy. More people die in America in fights and suicide attempts and everything because a 5-year-old could get his hands on a gun. Try killing, what was it, 20?, people with a pencil and a toothbrush, or even a knife. No, some shitload of guns, that made the difference between someone killing a few people and killing 20. Guns are bad. Just because they are fun doesn't mean you should be allowed to have them, there are other things just as fun, but those Don't have the ability to splatter any person you would like his brain over the floor.

Who the hell do you think you are? Who are you to determine the value of a persons life? Who gives you that right? Your the problem with this world. Get into a car accident, and if and when someone with a good conscience, someone you've never met before saves or at least tries to save your life, see what you think then. As someone said, put yourself in someone elses shoes.

I get what your saying, its self preservation. But empathy is also very important, we need to look out for each other to survive as a whole. Anyway if you do think like that then maybe it's better to keep it to yourself, its evident that people will hate you for what you say in a situation like this.
