Ok - here's one for you. It is of special interest to me because it explains a sudden spike in property values around our northern retreat - which is 22 miles from where this is happening. I know someone who is protesting there. Pretty funny. They actually build an 12-km fence around the place to keep all the thousands of protectors away from the kings of the world deciding for that world they control (without any constitution or democratic process giving them the right to get together and decide).

Sleeper Lake Fire in Michigan's Upper Peninsula
29 square miles continue to burn. Thankfully it is almost entirely uninhabited, which tells you something about the U.P. That's nearly 19,000 acres.
It is about 50% contained now. The don't expect it to be fully contained until some time in September. It is one of 22 fires now burning in Northern Michigan.

The government banned Hwang from research using human eggs after his claims that he created the first human stem cells through cloning were ruled last year to be bogus.
Hwang is standing trial on charges of fraud and embezzlement.

I heard it happened to a woman skydiving, too. That's just crazy. According to Dr. Sanjay Gupta (CNN) only 50% of people that fall (only) 3 storys or higher survive. This guy fell 43-47 storys (I keep hearing conflicting reports on exactly how high it was), but he still had enough time to reach terminal velocity. So falling 500 feet, as this guy did, would essentially be no different from falling 10,000 feet.
Still...that's nutz. :shock:
I wonder how the heck skydivers could survive that though? What sort of cushion could they have?
The one sky diver I heard of jumped and his chute didn't deploy, but he survived due to the extremely muddy ground in the area. From what I heard he didn't even have anymore than a couple fractures and was mostly just quite a bit bruised.

Video taken of the incident, at least initially, suggested that no other structures were affected by the fire.
A high rise building has been under construction directly adjascent to the Monte Carlo for several weeks, although it was not immediately known whether that may have played a factor in the fire.
The Monte Carlo is located between the New York, New York Hotel & Casino and the Bellagio -- all three of which are owned by the same corporation, MGM-Mirage.
South Africa 2008. The ANC government and it's utility companies brings the country to ruin, with an energy shortage crisis that should have been addressed 10 years ago.
The mines have been shut down, restaurants and supermarkets are having to close down (loss of perishables and can't help customers) not to mention the frustration of the general populace.

The executive managers get R13 million in 'performance bonusses', when the country has insufficient electricity ... I thought a performance bonus was give for good performance :P

The situation in China with the Tibetan march could get really ugly. I find it such a shame that a culture that gave us such enlightening literature, philosophy, mysticism is on the verge of possibly becoming extinguished.

Actually not so much recycling as just cycling--urine is full of small solids, and putting it through any system, whether to eject or distill, the number 1 problem is clogging.
I dunno if there's a thread about it but still the fuel is continuing to get stupidly high with it being £1.20 a litre and expecting to go up to £1.50 by the end of the summer!
Also yet again there is another knife crime in England where the people got next to no time doing as a sentence. Also they laughed when the judge sentenced them. Luckilly the person survived despite suffereing from a 10 inch deep stab wound.
How did knives become such a common weapon of choice in England? I mean, I had heard a long time ago that "in England, not even the cops carry guns - so there are no gun crimes". rofl! That is a TINY community. My bio-dad and his family live there and I never knew the club existed (of course, I haven't been in the neighborhood for 8 or 9 years).
That is one of the worst places to open a club. It's far away from the Interstate and it's mostly a residential community of largely poor-lower/middle income people. I wouldn't expect it to have had much success.

New developments in the story tell that the pilot did not survive the crash.
The kid behind the "attempted" Gumby Robbery was interviewed by one of our news stations. He said that he likes dressing up in those kinds of costumes and walking around but the guy working behind the counter said he was trying to rob him. He just goes on saying it was just a joke, and how he was misunderstood by the cashier.
In a way I kind of feel inclined to believe him since he didn't have a gun and his friend wasn't covering his face. But you never know I guess. I've been involved in a joke before that got me in trouble, except mine didn't make headlines.

I was thinking the exact same thing. That happens in a lot of these articles. For no reason they just cite 5 other examples of the same thing happening.
