I felt a chat room might take away from discussion on the forum though, because then everyone would simply talk in there. Thus, new users wouldn't benefit from a lot of the previous discussion from other members. I would think it be better to have everything discussed available to new users, so that they don't need to ask the same questions over and over, and also so they can come back here for a reference. Some pretty great ideas might end up being discussed in the chat, and if not posted on the forum most people won't benefit from them.

anyway, i'm on another forum that put one up and i've always felt it hurt the forum.

You're absolutly right, I've hosted 3 message boards in my time (being an admin) it would make everyone jus thang out in there instead of posting anything... Thus new membes would not be appealed and once the chat room started to get old The place would shatter (like my third one). The way you have it set up is perfect, just the right ammount of topics and such.

^^^^ Ok I just had to do that for my own entertainment, but I have something really valuable to say!!!!!!!

I was a memeber to another forum a while back about liquid dancing(yes that is how i got my name)

Anyways, this forum hosted a chat room but only once a week on saturdays! It was eleven o'clock EST time and only on Saturdays. The admin would post the link to the chat room in a thread and there was a way that he made it so it would only activate at 11, or any given time. I do not know how to do this but I found this worked out great because throughout the week people would post as usual but on Saturdays everyone got to reflect upon previous posts and chat for a few hours.

Does anyone else think this is a good idea???

Icedawg, i believe you are admin, so ill talk to you. I think it would be a great idea if you could find out a way to do this. Friday or Saturday would probably be the best day to host it, and maybe you could find out how to make a seperate thread programed to post the link to a chat room at a certain time of your choosing. I think most people in here live in the U.S. so a good hour might be from 9 P.M. until 6 A.M. or something like that.

Anyways its just an idea i hope most of you will support.

hrm. an interesting idea, and i like it better than having a permanently accessible chat on the site, but i'm still not completely sold on the whole chat thing. i'll think about it.

      Icedawg,

If you want to make a chat thingy at all, I'd suggest this:

      http://www.digichat.com/

You can add your own avatars, it can have seperate rooms, pm's, moderators (with certain levels), etc. etc.

Take a looksie, maybe you'll liksie.

      Hope I was helpful,

      ~ Michael : O'nus
