      Straightening Teeth

OK so at the end of this month I get my bonus from work, and I am hoping its going to be a big one. I am going to pay for my teeth to be fixed. OK here is the sad thing, as a kid (I am going to get so much abuse for this) I used to suck my thumb, and now my front teeth are in front of the rest!

So I am going to an orthodontist to get them straightened, and after this going to get them whitened, since I used to drink a lot of coffee and wine, they are slightly discoloured, not skanky like, but not brilliantly perfect.

So what I want to know is, has anyone here had to wear braces, were they painful, how long did you have to wear them? Also was it expensive?

I think I am going to have to shell out about £1,500 to £2,000 to get them done properly and going to pay more for the clear braces so I don't look too much like a dork. This one Orthodontist claims these new technology can reduce the time you have to wear them up to 4-7 months!!!

So looking for answers to the above. Also I am 25 so understand I might have to wear them a little longer than I might want lol

< will be me when they are better lol.

I've worn braces. Man I would have sold my soul for the clear ones!! But apparently those wouldn't have worked with my teeth.

I basically had one problem: two of my molars had almost swapped places, and the braces were to put those two teeth back in place. That was achieved, but in the process those piece of crap things moved my OTHER teeth around unecessarily. I wore them for 5 years, but that's pretty much the max that anyone has ever had them. I heard of someone wearing them for 7 years but that's just crazy!

I think that with your teeth, it will take a handful of months and that's it. And if they're clear, man, there's no problem there whatsoever!!

Good, coz I wouldn't want the ladies going off me now :p

I hope I can get the clear ones then, and I am planning on a MAX of 2 years, anymore and I think I might just get them cleaned and make do... Hmmm decisions.

I just think with braces, no girl would want to look at me again, they never did in school and people were laughed at for it. Although I am not in school now, so meh my appointment is next month

Damn my phne bill is going to be HUGE checking this forum

just because they are clear doesn't mean people can't see them. My friend has clear ones, I'll admit they are not as noticeable as my normal ones but there not invisible or anything. My teeth are just crooked generally and apparently i have an overbite( front teeth in front of back). I've been wearing them one year and im getting them off very soon, I'll have to wear this thing at night for a while though.

I doubt yours will take to long, though i guess it will be longer since it's easier when your younger.

Nah don't worry, it'll be fine. I admit it is strange to see adults with regular braces, so definitely go for the clear ones. They'll be worth the extra cash. You also won't have to worry about getting food stuck in them.

joey, a retainer you mean? I wore one for a while and then gave up. :p

You know, I'm very lucky. I was born with naturally straight teeth that have never really moved (except one of my bicuspids on the top row).

I have some crowding on the bottom row of my teeth that I want rid of, sadly the NHS wouldn't do me for some reason, they just kept shoving me from dentist to dentist until I was too old for them to pay for them

So I've decided on some invisalign for the bottom row, costs quite a bit though, but you can't see it, so it should be fine once I've got job that pays well enough. Apparently my teeth are fine for the treatment.

I also have some slight discoloring in my teeth because well, it's a family thing, so I'm thinking I might get a whitening for the time being.

I've never had braces my teeth are straight, but I have had a lot of friends with braces and they say that it hurts to get them or get them tightened and that your mouth will be sore for a while after but you get used to it until the next tightening >_>

But yeah like said above even though the clear ones cost extra it's worth it if you don't want them to be very visible.

yeah one of those. You gave up, did your teeth go a little crooked again? I heard if you dont wear it at all then your teeth can semi revert to their original crooked position. So you wear it for a few months at night to make them stay in the new position until their settled.

See I wore the thing for about a year or more. Some dentist told me I had to wear it for the rest of my life, so I was like, screw this. My teeth shifted a bit but it's only noticeable to me. Everyone else says I have nice teeth. But the teeth that shifted were perfectly normal before the braces. Always question your orthodontist. I made the mistake of just going along for the ride.

In all seriousness, though, I was going to get braces as my teeth were all over the shot, but they started to correct themselves and now only two are out of place (because one grew infront of the other ) Apparently they will correct themselves.
need to actually start like trying to LD i've pretty much started that now kinda.
