      Favorite song lyrics?

This is now a thread for posting all your favorite song lyrics. Bow down before its threadiness!

One that is stuck in my head right now is a part of Duel With The Devil by Transatlantic. They make long songs.

      Motherless children
      Wandering nowhere
Feels like there's miles to go
      Reaching for water
      Longing to go there
      Flooding into your soul
      Also: Octavarium, by Dream Theater.

Spoiler for Warning: Very long, and copied from a lyrics site. I bear no responsibility for mistakes or anything else in it.:

I like lyrics with subtleties and meaning so anything by Bob Dylan. Mass produced crap pisses me off.

In my opinion the best song ever written was "Whiter Shade of Pale," by Procol Harum: Because you have to be smart and cultured to understand what the lyrics mean.

      We skipped the light fandango
      turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
      I was feeling kinda seasick
but the crowd called out for more
      The room was humming harder
      as the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
      the waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,'
though in truth we were at sea
so I took her by the looking glass
      and forced her to agree
saying, 'You must be the mermaid
who took Neptune for a ride.'
But she smiled at me so sadly
      that my anger straightway died

And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale

She said, 'There is no reason
and the truth is plain to see.'
But I wandered through my playing cards
and would not let her be
      one of sixteen vestal virgins
who were leaving for the coast
and although my eyes were open
they might have just as well've been closed

And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale

If music be the food of love
      then laughter is its queen
and likewise if behind is in front
then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
seemed to slip straight through my head
      So we crash-dived straightway quickly
      and attacked the ocean bed

And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale

Nightwish lyrics, most of them made by Tuomas Holopainen, from the band itself

      here go two of them:

      Ghost Love Score
      Nightwish
      Tuomas Holopainen

      We used to swim
      The same moonlight waters
      Oceans away
      From the wakeful day

My fall will be for you
(My fall will be for you
My love will be in you
If you be the one to cut me
      I will bleed forever)

      Scent of the sea
Before the waking of the world
      Brings me to thee
      Into the blue memory

My fall will be for you
(My fall will be for you
My love will be in you
If you be the one to cut me
      I will bleed forever)

      Into the blue memory

      A Siren from the deep
Came to me, sang my name, my longing
      Still I write my songs
      About that dream of mine
Worth everything I may ever be

The child will be born again
That siren carried him to me
      First of them true loves
      Singing on the shoulders
Of an angel without care for love and loss

Bring me home or leave me be
My love in the dark heart of the night
I have lost the path before me
The one behind will lead me
      x2

Take me, cure me, kill me, bring me home
      Every way, every day
Just another loop in the hangman's noose

Take me, cure me, kill me, bring me home
      Every way, every day
I keep on watching us sleep

Relive the old sin of Adam end Eve
      Of you and me
      Forgive the adoring beast

      Redeem me into childhood
Show me myself without the shell
      Like the advent of May
I'll be there when you say
Time to never hold our love

My fall will be for you
(My fall will be for you
My love will be in you
You was the one that cut me
      So I'll bleed forever)

My fall will be for you...
      Ever Dream
      Nightwish
      Tuomas Holopainen

      Ever felt away with me
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day

      Ever felt away without me
My love, it lies so deep
      Ever dream of me

Would you do it with me
Heal the scars and change the stars
Would you do it for me
      Turn loose the heaven within

      I'd take you away
      Castaway on a lonely day
      Bosom for a teary cheek
My song can but borrow your grace

      Chorus:
      Ever felt away with me
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day

      Ever felt away without me
My love, it lies so deep
      Ever dream of me

Come out, come out wherever you are
      So lost in your sea
Give in, give in for my touch
For my taste for my lust

      Chorus:
      Ever felt away with me
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day

      Ever felt away without me
My love, it lies so deep
      Ever dream of me

Your beauty cascaded it on me
      In this white night fantasy

      Chorus 3x:
Lyrics belong to their rightful authors. Those were taken from http://www.letras.mus.br/ (brazilian website).

Those are great songs by Nightwish

coming to think about Nightwish one of my favourites lyrics came from "Gethsemane"

      "I knew you never before
      I see you never more
But the love the pain the hope O beautiful one
Have made you mine 'till all my years are done"

      Without you
The poetry within me is dead "
      thought I would share

Though one song that comes to mind that I've always enjoyed the lyrics too would be "To Die For" by The Birthday massacre.

This is forever but it won’t last long
To see the whole song I got it under the spolier.

Spoiler for To Die for lyrics by the Birthday Massacre:

OH BTW this part of nightwish lyrics always gives me the chillls.

Nightwish - Dead to the world (p.s. i been a fan since they were founded)

It's not the monsters under your bed
It is the Man next door
That makes you fear, makes you cry,
Makes you cry for the child

For a second there you made me reconsider the whole song.. "wait.. i don't remember lyrics to moondance.":p

Anyway, I know their version is great! is it bad for me to say I like it over the original? Oh, and have you heard "Eva" with the knew singer Anette? She's not bad. I'm actually excited to hear how she sounds on the rest of the upcoming album.

she's not bad, but I don't particularly like "Eva"

hope she sings as well as or maybe better (is that possible) than tarja

waiting for "the poet and the pendulum"... sources say it's great

      My favorite lyrics?

      It changes all the time...

In this particular period of time (let's say a few weeks ago 'till now) I have this one song in my head all the time...

It's part Dutch and part another language (my best guess is Portugese... but I'm not really sure yet... care to confirm anyone?)

It's called "Naar het Zuiden" ("To the South"), sung by Fernando Lameirinhas and Paul de Leeuw (famous dutch comedian, singer and tv show host (and a cool guy too!)... but is probably more known overseas as "that guy that gave the results in the Eurovision Song Contest"... He is openly gay, which caused some (undeserved) commotion in the 2006 votes (which I, personally, don't understand... It was funny as hell... just look it up on youtube))

Here's the song (It is VERY low quality on there... So if you want the song in its full glory, PM me and I'll send it to you...) The bass is great... just not in the video... Really, if you REALLY want to enjoy this song... Try the real deal, and PM me... trust me on this one...

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPT4_limtj0

      And here are the Lyrics:

Spoiler for Lyrics of 'Naar het Zuiden':

I don't have the translation yet... And since I don't know portugese (yet???), I won't post it (yet?????)...

      Yes it is portuguese.

Gonna translate the portuguese parts below (I don't know dutch yet, maybe one day...):

Btw it's Portugal portuguese. "Dum" (of a) is considered old-fashioned and silly here in brazil

And the accent in the song is also portuguese.

      Anything by Pink Floyd.

More noticeably, the climax of the album, the Wall, in the song called...

      Spoiler for The Trial:

Starry starry night, paint your pallet blue and gray,
Look out on a summers day,
with eyes that know the darkness of my soul.

This is only part of the song, but this is the part that really makes me think. I'm not into Christian Rock, bu this song is awesome.

      Pillar-Hypnotized

It's been far too long, we've known all along
This was going on, can't seem to respond to anything, so, we carry on
With our lives, we rewind, we can't find, we deny
The simple fact that we haven't done anything
Doesn't mean that we can't start offering
Why do we feel so far? It's like we're seeing stars
Why does it seem so hard to wake up now and see who we really are?

      So, let go
      Don't follow

Where do we go from here?
      How did it disappear?
It's hard to see with our own eyes
      These times (these lies)
      We've been hypnotized

I think it's time we try to open up our eyes
Look away from the very thing that's made us cry
We're hypnotized, and you'll see the real me
      Luckily, it can't be stopped
If the tick-tock of life isn't all that you got
      So, come ready or not
Wake up, it's your last shot

      So, come to
      And redo
Why does it seem so hard to wake up now and see who we really are?

It's called A Gothic Romance (Red Roses for the Devil's Whore) by Cradle of Filth. Their music is a bit too screamy for me, but I LOVE their lyrics. It's about a man being seduced then turned into a vampire. Very poetic and beautiful.

      Spoiler for long lyrics:
