I'm a huge fan of these sort of topics...
Looking over nature and giving it human qualities that match your own...
I dunno, it's just something that I find really amazing to think about.

So there are these elements that I'm aware of...

Air: Thought that I would be water. The quiz was almost completely wrong about my personality. Who would have thought it, an inaccurate online quiz?!

Ironically though, I've lived my life thinking I was a water, until a few weeks ago when I realized that I'm actually a fire =P!

O.O I could get really technical over these things [since I dabble in a variety of things and horoscope elements and zodiac elements being one of them] and since I said that, I might as well complicate my life and do so ;)

Quiz wise I'm air. I say it's only partially suiting to my personality. Maybe a 60% match?

Based on my zodiac on the sixty year cycle I'm metal [or gold if you go by one of my Chinese friend's elemental base]. Zodiac branch, Earth element. General zodiac sign element, earth. Horoscope based I'm water. So yeah...

But when I made the quiz I saw the matter as a personal/personality choice, rather than astrology or birthdates, since i have a twin brother and we are VERY different =P
But Chinese Birthday-wise, I'm a Metal =P And it surprisingly goes dead on with my personality:

I'm also Metal based on my birth date, and the description is so accurate.

Well, according to the quiz, I'm air.

According to Chinese astrology, I'm wood.

I still think I'm water. I was at the ocean for the past week, and there is no other place I would rather be.

I envy you Amethyst, you're wood based, I don't know, but maybe it's because I have a wood monkey friend with a water based branch but he's just such an amazing person that I really envy him, he has an amazing personality that I'm sure you probably share too.

I know that when it comes down to Chinese astrology, it can be very complex with the birth time's Earth branches [I think that's what it's called] and then the stars [but that's not elemental so yeah...]. And doesn't the Yin and Yang of the zodiac animal have something to do with it? I can't remember, I only retouch on this stuff every few years...
