anyone read anything by Alistair MacLeod?

i don't suppose anyone has read anything by Alistair MacLeod here? he's a wonderful (and disappointingly relatively-unknown) Canadian author. anyway, i'm particularly interested in anyone who has read any of his short stories (from his 'The Lost Salt Gift of Blood' or 'As Birds Bring Forth the Sun' collections, or from 'Island' which contains all of his short stories up to the present day, including the two aforementioned collections). he also has a novel called "No Great Mischief" but i'm still reading his short stories right now.

generally i feel the really great authors aren't confined within the restricting boundaries of a genre; the stories i have read from him are fiction, but based upon a great deal of experience from his younger years.

anyway, one of his short stories--The Lost Salt Gift of Blood--has a very unique and interesting way of introducing characters and their inter-relationships, and he accomplishes this in a masterful and cleverly contrived way...i was hoping someone would have read it here. i don't really have anyone i can discuss this stuff with, because my friends seem to lose interest in anything not related to cars.

Yeah, I hear you. Don't get me wrong, cars are cool and all, but what the hell is the point of talking about them 24/7? Damn, if you have the money to buy one, then do. If you don't, then sorry but what can I do...End of story...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow

But that's more than I can allow...
