Re: Riddles From O'nus - 2
Okay, I'm gonna have to write this down. Let's say left is heaven in this scenario and right is hell, but the person dosen't know that.
I am assuming that they both live randomly: ie they could and could not be living on the road to heaven. Asking them a question relying on the fact they live on a certain road is no good. We need to get a definite anwser from these annoying hermits.
NB: I got the anwser! Scroll all the way down through the writing and tests and stuff.
Asking Random Questions
Q1) Which way leads to heaven?
Truth Hermit = Left
Lie Hermit = Right
Wrong Question
Q2) Which way must I not go if I want the road that leads to hell?
Truth Hermit = Left
Lie Hermit = Right
Wrong Question
Q3) Which road must I not go on if I do not want to go to heaven?
Truth Hermit = Left
Lie Hermit = Right
Wrong Question
Q4) Which road do I not go on if I do not want to not go to heaven?
Truth Hermit = Right
False Hermit = Left
Wrong (and too bloody confusing) Question
Right, stuff that. My brain hurts.
The Hermits Themselves
The Truth hermit is always gonna tell us the truth. The false hermit is always going to say a lie. If we can play on the fact that the false hermit is always going to tell us a lie then we might be able to get it.
Asking the False Hermit Questions
(Heaven Road = Left & Hell Road = Right) for this exercise.
Q1) Which way leads to heaven?
Right road (hell road)
Q2) Which way does not lead to heaven?
Left road (heaven road) - but truth hermit will point to hell road as he tells the truth.
Q3) Which way does not lead to hell?
Right road (hell road) - but the truth hermit will say the opposite.
Q4) Which road do you not live on?
Hang on...this could be it. Let's assume the false hermit is on heaven road and the truth hermit is on hell road, then I'll do it the other way round.
False Hermit = I do not live on the heaven road.
Truth hermit is now on heaven road, and the false hermit on hell road:
False Hermit = I do not live on the hell road.
But if we ask the truth hermit the question, they'll just anwser the same, and we have no way of finding out which hermit is which.
Questions that we cannot ask
Anything on the lines of "which way leads", no matter how many double negatives you put in it, is a completely useless question. So I'm not going to ask that again.
Any question about the hermit's personality. Relies on them to be on one of the roads.
More Theory
The riddle states that they are both brothers...I guess this must be an important fact otherwise it wouldn't of been included. It could be a red herring but still, let's have a go with it.
"Brother" Questions
For this exercise, I'm going to pretend the truth hermit is on hell road (right) and the false hermit on heaven road (left).
Which road does your brother live on?
truth hermit = heaven road
false hermit = heaven road
Which road does your brother not live on?
truth hermit = hell road
false hermit = hell road
What is your brother?
truth hermit = a liar
false hermit = a liar
[useless]
What would your brother tell me if I asked him the road to heaven?
truth hermit = right
false hermit = right
Ah, that's IT! You ask them that question then take the other anwser, and you will go to heaven.
Anwser
I knew I'd get it eventually :P
ask: What would your brother tell me if I asked him the road to heaven?
Then take the opposite road.
Bashing everybody else :P

Simply ask one of the hermits which way to there village....if it is telling the truth, it will point in the right direction, and if it telling a lie it will point in the right direction...thats actually pretty simple ^_^. *
edit:that is..assuming the one that tells the truth is the one in heaven..[/b]
I know what you did. You got that anwser from a site- I know of a site with a exercise very similiar to this, so you did a sneeky google eh? The anwser you just gave us was the anwser that site had. [which is the wrong one because this is a slightly diff exercise]
