      Nicotine & Dreaming

I decided to quit smoking for various reasons, a major one being the fact that cigarettes are messing with my sleep. I would smoke 30 or 40 cigarettes in a day and then not be able to fall asleep without drinking a six pack of beer and smoking a bunch of weed. After all the drinking and dope at night I would sleep so heavily that I barely remembered any dreams. I think my body was in some kind of chemical shock from all the chemicals, because I would wake up with my body, sheets, pillows etc soaking with sweat. I mean, like I was swimming. In the morning I would need a quart of coffee to get myself going again. Actually, I had to alternate between ginsing energy drinks and coffee to avoid developing a tolerence. I have known that my sleep patterns were off for a long time, but until I started trying to LD I never really cared.

Now I have been nicotine free for Two Days, 10 Hours and 46 Minutes. I am happy to report that I am dreaming like never before. I actually remembered 5 dreams last night! I have been keeping a dream journal since 6/28 and have never before remembered more than 2 dreams in a single night, and usually only one or none.

Anyone else have experience with starting or stopping nicotine and its effect on dreaming?

I've been clean for about two weeks now. I'm a weird nicotine user. I'll buy a pack or a can of chaw (sometimes two) and it'll take me about three days to go through, then I won't do it again for a few weeks. Then after being clean a few weeks I'll do it again.

      Smoking Pros and Cons

      Pros-
When your addicted it will relax you
Its an acetylcholine booster, I find I do think a little quicker when I'm smoking.
It does improve my dream recall

      Cons-
      Dirty
I live in New York state, which means I can't do it anywhere
Shrinks my penis (its a vasoconstrictor, I'd like to keep that blood flow moving to my buddy thank you very much)

Eh, maybe this will be the time I finally quit it totally for real. But then again, that's what I say everytime.
An idea is something you haven't fully considered.
A belief is merely a repetitive thought.
A conclusion is simply where you stopped thinking.

i'm a casual smoker... i actually had to stop for about 2 weeks... then i started again two sundays ago... now i've stopped again. i don't really notice a change in sleep habits. but i wasn't at 2 packs a day either... i was around 2 smokes a day... so i don't think that'll help you. -- i plan on quitting until christmas where i will have won a bet with my girlfriend (who just made the bet to get me to quit... she's a crafty one) but then on christmas day i will light up my glorious victory smoke and bask in my greatness.
