      What tangles headphone wires?

It's the elves! They come out at night and do it for shits and giggles! Help me! This question goes beyond all my levels of understanding, I just don't see how if you put your Mp3 player on a surface the next day the wires just tangle themselves up! Where's the logic in that? This is not even funny it really gets me questioning reality... good for LDs maybe but not good for my listening pleasure. It can sometimes take the whole journey to school jsut to untangle the things and it just pees me off SO BAD !

I experience this same phenomenon. I do not, however, believe it to be elves. Elves, while playful in nature, are not mischievous. Gnomes...now they are particularly nasty little buggers, however they do not often venture indoors. It could very well be pixies though...they're always up to high jinks and love sabotage.

Because it was in your pocket or a place that was moving and the friction moved the wires and tangled them and your failed to notice.

That's like three heil-Dawkins' and a couple rocks into a church window for that one.

People are always complaining about this, and most of my friends' headphone wires are in a constant tangle, but this hardly ever happens to me. Maybe once a week, they get in a knot and I untie it. I don't do anything that special, just wind the headphones around my ipod and put it in my pocket... maybe I have appeased the elves in a former life.

No, it must be the way you wind your headphones. The configuration must form an anti-gnome/pixie charm... or some asthetically pleasing swirl. Tell us your secret!

I don't think so, Nina, pixies don't usually stray far from their forests. Imps, however, definitely fit the profile.

I can't believe no one mentioned sprites. They're prone to be causing harmless pranks and are mischievous by nature.
