Is it tacky to get one ear pierced?

I want to get one of my ears pierced, but I wanna know is it considered tacky now days to have just one ear pierced? I ask because I was thinking about getting my right ear pierced, I want people to know I'm gay, but I don't want to have to shout it out all the time, and I don't act, nor do I like acting, like a stereotypical homo...so I'm at a loss for what I should be doing.

Well if you want people to know you're gay that's the best way to do it. I only consider it tacky if you get your left ear pierced and that's it (and you're heterosexual).

      Go dual piercings!

The fact that you were considering whether it's tacky or not would be enough to tip most people off.

Could have sworn it was the left ear, since the majority of the people I see with one ear pierced have their right one done.

Then the majority of people you've seen with one ear pierced are gay.

Or, more likely, they've never heard of this particular 'sign'

In the latter part of the 20th century, some Americans and Europeans adopted the convention that when a man pierced just one of his ears, it symbolized his being gay. In some circles, it was the left ear, while in others, the right. Men with bilateral ear piercings were relatively rare, and were sometimes interpreted as effeminate or bisexual.

In any case, I think a single piercing is hotter on a guy than two. I think most would agree.

It's too lopsided for my liking. Symmetry is the way to go.

Symmetry in terms of accessories, though, is not always necessary.

You could always grow a Freddy Mercury style mustache. That's a pretty good sign that someone's either gay or a cop.

It doesn't mean you're gay. I have the top part of my left ear pierced, and I used to have my left eyebrow pierced. All it means is you don't give a shit what people think, and I've never had anyone think or ask if I'm gay.

I did all this without asking permission while working at a bank mind you... I always had to be spitting in the face of authority in some way.

The right one is a sign for being gay. If you read his post he wants people to know that he's gay

Well, thats what it means to you. I'm sure that not every guy whose had his ear pierced was sticking it to the man.
I am posting on topic elsewhere for the most part.

Exactly. Some guys are average and that's it. But when they come up with a single earpiercing, it kind of adds a flower to a grassy field. The metallic outlook makes it brilliant and attractive. But two earrings? Overuse.

And sandform the right ear is the gay one. I'm now considering getting one myself xD

If you are a bit indecisive because of what you think people will think of you, I'd say go ahead and get it pierced.

Why don't you get both ears pierced and wear one or two earrings based on what you are feeling?

I was thinking both ears pierced would be twice as gay. I guess not?

Piercing your body is just an excuse for self-mutilation unless you're female, then it is almost expected.

Both ears pierced = what a female uses. So it's uber gay.

I have no desire to harm myself for no good reason thank you.

Not to mention I see idiots walking around with those spacers in. What the hell? That's called permanent ear damage and when you get old it will make your ears become deformed.

Piercings are just an excuse for self mutilation.

Nah. Piercings are simply a choice, like any other.

Choosing to walk out in the sun without sunscreen on a sunny day could be interpreted as self-mutilation from a different perspective.

Don't speak as if you have the perspective to blanket statement and judge others. All it does is show your lack of perspective.
