Thread: Police Officers Attack Transgendered Woman in Memphis..

One officer called Johnson a ‘faggot’ and a ‘he-she’ and then hit her several times in the face after she refused to respond to the derogatory comments, according to the site. The officer repeatedly punched Johnson with handcuffs wrapped around his knuckles while a second officer held Johnson’s shoulders as she tried to defend herself, according to the site.

I'm confused, which is it?

Seriously though, that's sick. Good ol' law enforcement.

by his knuckle, they meant the officers knuckle, surrounded by a handcuff, beating the handcuff into that poor girls face. It's not only transgenders, its gays too, and blacks and hispanics who get beaten senselessly by cops around the country, there is no law and order anymore it seems.

But this woman didn't do a damn thing wrong, other then being born the way she was, which isn't even her fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These transphobic and homophobic people are really starting to piss me off, we should form a trans/gay coalition of like self-defense against abusive law enforcement

Self-defence? You don't solve problems like these with violence, semi-violence, or aggression. Didn't you ever hear of the Black Panthers?

Wake up. Self defense comes in non-aggressive, non-physical forms.

How is self defense considered violence if your preventing harm to yourself?

When you're in the process of being attacked obviously a voilent response is an acceptable one. It doesn't solve the overall problem but you may be able to get out of that immediate situation. No one here is proposing waging some kind of war.

But come on be real, if two cops start beating on you, kicking and and punching you, are you just going to take it, i don't think so. Your going to block blows but since that's only going to make them like beating you even more, your going to have to fight back.

I mean if you get it go and tries to complain it's your word against two cops and we all know cops stick together.

We don't see that here, so maybe I am unable to offer a valid explanation.

The police are always right, even if they aren't. Agression in self-defence will help your well-being in the short term, but not the problem of police aggression in the long-term.

If you really wanted to make change to this situation you should make a media/political push: try to publicise all the incidents to show that it is an institutional problem, contact the relevant associations (for gay rights, the rights of ethnic minorities e.t.c) with a dossier, contact politicians, newspapers, television channels.

If you fight back (regardless of whether this is justifiable or not), against the police, you will just end up on one of those cop shows like "street crime USA", or "world's dumbest criminals".

The two cases are not exclusive. She may've had surgery, but that doesn't mean to say she wasn't born transgendered; AFAIK transexualism is commonly caused by a congenital difference in the brain, so that the brain is in some ways female but the body is male (or vice versa).

Yea Identity got it right on the nose, you don't have to have a sex change to be transgendered, you just have to realise if you feel right in your body or not. It's like a brain issue really, but it effects your body, especially when you don't like it.
