The monitor should be just above level with your eyes. Your keyboard should be just above where your elbows hang. That's the proper position for a regular computer setup. No one that I know does that though |

How do you guys sit in your computer chair, what position do you usually sit in and how far from the mouse & keyboard do you usually sit? |
|
I would rather die on my feet then to live on my knees.

How do I, personally sit? |
|
I'm upside down, and masturbating furiously. |

I think current research relatively safely indicates that persistent sitting in a very straight position is detrimental to ergonomic health more than anything, contrary to what was previously thought. You would have to Google this for further information. The rest is still right though (chair/desk height etc.). |

i generally use my laptop on the floor of my room (desk collapsed after a unfortunate accident involving playing football in my room), so i lay on my side on the floor with the laptop in front of me, or if we are talking desktop i just learn forward on the desk, or lean back in the chair when not typing, the screen is about eye level, i haven't really done this for prolonged periods of time so no clue if i would get aches after a bit. |

I lean back (my chair can lean way back), put my left elbow on the arm rest, and the other one just relaxes across my body. I can easily type this way. And I'm kind of slouched. I don't know, that's just how I am right now, sometimes I'm in different positions. Remember, work is different from home. |

You do this every fucking time.
No sweat.
No tears.
No guilt.
You do this every fucking time.

I have a laptop, and no chair, so I generally just hurt. I sit on the edge of my bed with my laptop on a small card table. Right now, as usual, my left elbow is on my knee, my hand supporting my chin, I'm slouched over, my right hand is typing, and my head is well below the top of my screen. |
|
I have a strange position, I put my lower back as close to the back of the chair as possible, but my upper body rests on my desk. Also usually I rest my neck on a bottle of a book so it doesn't get sore. It doesn't look like something you would want to do at a job, but IT is comfortable for me at my home. |
|
Your shoulders might be hurting because it's a strain on your back to be straight like that at all times, I think. I would put a little pillow at the bottom of your back. |
|
The shoulder pain is much rather caused my stress rather than bad positioning, I tell you. Stress equals adrenaline, and adrenaline makes your muscles contract, many a times without you noticing or caring to relax. Bad positioning causes problems to the back, not shoulders. Either way, as long as you don't bother much about sitting in a position that uses your muscles instead of your bones to hold still, you will be fine. Use your bones, not your muscles. The back of the chair is there for a reason: use it instead of your muscles. |

Saying quantum physics explains cognitive processes is just like saying geology explains jurisprudence.
i sit hunched over, leaning with my hand holding my head up, keyboard and mouse right above my lap, and monitor just below eye level, about 2 feet away. |

You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.
