Otherwise, I think Spanish would be a really practical language to learn. I'd also like to brush up on my French. And I always thought German was very cool sounding.
I was thinking about this yesterday and I have decided that I would like to learn a sign language too. ASL probably but whichever is most commonly used in the US, I'm not too sure which one is. I just think it would be cool and useful to be able to sign.

I've always wanted to learn Japanese. I absolutely love the language and have always wanted to go to Japan. It also is a super hard language, so I think it would be a good challenge for me. I also am learning Latin in all four years of high school. I figured I would take it as it would be a good language to put on my resume for college and, as all romantic languages are derived from it, it could help me learn many others such as French and Spanish if I ever want to.

i also want to learn russian and italian for the same reason as german and i already know spanish so italian would be easier to learn.because i know spanish i can already understand basic italian sentences.i already know french but i haven't used it in so long i pry have forgotten most of it so i will try to review that sometime.learning japanese and mandarin sounds good too.

If I could learn any language it would either be Japanese or German.
I've been studying Japanese for almost a year here in Tokyo, but there still is a long way to go. Although the grammar and the pronounciation isn't that very hard, the kanji and different levels formality are quite the bother. It's almost like studying three languages at once since every sentence can be said in three basic ways with numerous variation between them.
But after that I'd like to study icelandish (or whatever the language is called). I find it very beautiful. I should relearn all the german I've forgotten since school, too.
i speak french... took an AS level class with Dizko but i dropped it cause i hate languages in school. Languages are soooo much more exciting outside of school environment!

I think I'd like to learn German or French. A tiny part of me wants to go to Paris one day and I don't want to be the illiterate dolt tourist walking around aimlesly.
Anyone who is interested in learning beyond the "common" language, I'd like to suggest the titles Dirty Japanese and Dirty Italian - basically collections of slang words and informal speech in their respective languages. Great way to learn some new insults. :boogie:

I'd like to learn my conlang to fluency and teach it to a select group of people. We could discuss all sorts of things in secret... shh...

I'm going into French II when summer ends and I enjoy it very much.
Other than that I think I'd like to learn German, and get a handle on the basis of Scandinavian languages, maybe learn Norwegian or Swedish.
Another language I'm really interested in learning would be latin. It'll be very beneficial.
I already know a unique language =D Swiss-German. Just try to understand me, schwobbe =P
I'd love to learn Finnish... It sounds so cool. I think I'll actually try to? I'm not sure yet.
Japanese is my native language and I'm extremely thrilled on how many people here would want to learn the language. I've been speaking english since I was a little girl and I've completely lost my asian accent' ;)
As far as taking on a new language, I would love to learn Farsi, since it's the most widely accepted language of all Persians and also I understand you can use it as an alternative to Arabic in Dubai and Farsi would definately come in very handy when I take trips to Dubai.

I'd like to learn Cantonese because it's such a challenge, and I'd like to live in Hong Kong at some point. English is an official language there, however knowing a Chinese language would still be useful.
I don't know.. I'm quite a fan of French, but I don't see much use in it. Maybe chinese but damn it is so hard :P
Silly element for you. You say that only because you are used to the English language. Many languages have much worse characteristics than the gender thing. And in fact, even the gender of things has a logic. It's all a matter of getting used to: just like you'll spend time memorising words, you'll take a little extra time to memorise their gender. I tell you, learning genders is nothing. You'll slowly get used to thinkign of objects as masculine of feminine. The problem is when you already know, say, French, and go for Spanish, and the genders for the same objects are different.Quote:
