I admit that this place is being filled with useless crap. I joined this place because when I first found it it seemed like a no nonsence atitude. But now it seems that in the deep topics, the first relpy is "Who cares, lets just stare at your sig" well somthing like that, or we have topics like "OMG THER MIGHT BI A TEHNOYK CALD A WILD U MIGHT NO MORE" I mean I'm all for this place becoming friendlier, but there needs to be ground rules.

deleting inactive accounts doesn't help, because those ppl are not accessing the databse. So logically you would delete those who access the data the most (i.e. those view the posts the most) but that will be illogical also.

So maybe delete senseless banter or any part of the forum that is non-essential but high traffic. But from icedawg's anouncement it seemed that the chat was what using the bandwidth most rapidly.

Better than deleting senseless banter:

make a new skin for senseless banter that uses little or zero images, and remove avatars from senseless banter also.

heres my two cents theres sections for attaining lucidity and experiences i mean maybe it should be one section

and one things wierd i love this fourm sometimes i dont even have to post anything just read coz it helps anyways..but there must be some MODS yes to actually delete useless threads or ones that went offtopic and which the creator of the thread gave the green lights to the mods to delete it....and it would be better to allow newbies to post in only certin sections like lucid experiences or the attaining lucidity section..until they reach a higher rank they could post at other threads....and there should be warning to stupid repeated posts.....

and a SEARCH BAR because if they used it they might find what they need instead of re posting topics which rapes the bandwidth

the fourm i go to had like 5 or six mods in each section whichmade people responsible however the mods dont do anything to editing posts or such unless needed which gives the fourm more spirit..but no flames aloud u can cuss all you want tho

okay and there should be a donations page like 2 dollers or one dollers it actually helps ppl will donate i do

and then theres the U or u dun belive what i justt dreamt i mean it gets annoying the slang language in posting threads its very unformal and stupid.....but who cares what i say im just a big old lesbo

I got the impression more bandwidth is just a necessary step due to growth in membership and traffic. A donation page might be worthwhile, tho---just keep it anonymous so no one feels pressured.

Accessing the database is not going to consume any bandwidth really. That is all done server-side. And displaying text back to the user does not consume that much bandwidth. What takes most bandwidth are images (avatars), and any sort of chat program is going to consume a hell of an amount of bandwidth, much more than images and text put together, I'd imagine.

You do realise that avaters still show up on the other skin? Maybe getting rid of that skin altogether would help. (Even though I love that skin to bit's) To be honest, every little helps with saving bandwidth, moving the chat to an irc network may also help.

you know what the sad part is...it used to be everyone's favorite section back in the days, I even once made a poll about it. It was the first and last section I always checked. Lately, I don't even bother to go in there anymore, as it had been raped of its essence...

As I understand it, it is chat and the avatars that are causing the problems.

Perhaps Icedawg might gain a little breathing space by just allowing chat on weekends, but, we ARE going to run out of bandwidth sooner or later, probably in a few months.

This place is just growing like crazy. It is looking like the only solution will be to upgrade services.

why does DV host the avatars? I mean...my avatar could just be hosted on imageshack. WHy does it have to be DV?

EDIT: if DV isnt hosting the pics...then how come I can see all the avatars still?

you see them? O_o ...thats weird. All of the avatars on my side have been disabled like icedawg said..are you talking about the signatures? because those arent hosted here.

Just switched to the subsilver skin and I still see avatars on there... gameover probably uses that skin over bmanblue?

You shouldn't really switch for the avatars. Otherwise you'll just kill the bandwidth.

Anyway, the avatar off line linking has been disabled because people linked to avatars that were huge, or way outta the limits. phpbb dosen't support verification of offline avatar sizes, so he disabled it. D:
