Meanwhile, the Aiken fan site ClayManiacs was open for viewing. Response in a thread on the site's "ShoutBox" was generally supportive, though at least one fan was shaken by Aiken's public confession.

"This is really shocking news as I had no idea he was gay," read a comment posted by "Sheridansq." "And now I have to deal with this. I am not sure what to say to people who know I was a fan. ... I didn't go to work today and am not answering the telephone."

Good call. If you're really that clueless, staying home is probably best for everyone.

When I was into singing a few years back I quite liked his music, and wanted to have a voice as good as his, I am actually a bit suprised, everyone I heard from did think he was gay, but I didn't always look for stereotypes, I guess they are right in some cases. I haven't kept up with his life in recent years (I used to read a lot about him, he was like my singing role model) I remember over hearing some kids on my bus talk about the fact that he showed up on the cover of some magazine and they said he was openly gay, I forgot to search it but when I came a crossed this thread I almost instantly knew who it was probably about, I am suprised to see he has a kid now too.
