How do you eat pumpkin seeds?

I just bought a bag of roasted & salted all natural David Pumpkin Seeds. On the back of the bag it states: You can pop a handful in your mouth right out of the bag, or crack open the shell and just eat the seed. Either way, they are a perfect snack! I never thought about eating the shell? Is there any danger in that? It's certainly alot easier (and faster) to eat the whole thing shell and all. How do you eat pumpkin seeds? .

I always eat the shell. If I remember correctly they're not as bad a sunflower shells, which I eat anyway. The only time they really hurt is when a sliver breaks off and wedges itself between your gums and teeth. Edit: It also hurts if the shards of shell get turned perpendicular to the walls of my throat, thus wedging themselves securely for the next few hours (or until I get off my lazy ass and drink something).

If I remember right, the David brand pumpkins seeds have rather tough shells. So with those I pick up the pumpkin seed and put it in between my front teeth so that the pointy end is toward me and is vertical (as in not flat). I give it a little bite so it starts cracking open the seed. Then I give another little bite about half way down. It's fast and the shell opens right up. I eat the seed and discard the shell. If I roast my own pumpkin seeds I eat the shell. They don't seem as tough as the store bought kind. Have fun!

Around Halloween, after we carve the pumpkins, Ben always roasts all the pumpkin seeds on the stove and salts them. I think it's something his mom used to do. Anyway, they are pretty good! And since the shell's the salted part, of course I eat them inside the shell! Any person who's even remotely fed a squirrel before will tell you that peanuts are to be invariably eaten inside the shell. We get the shells everywhere, but I'm told we're incessantly cute about it.

My favorite set of kayaking pictures is from June 13 in Antelope canyon. Although the Colorado River trip (June 26) was also extremely fun. (Can I just say I love to kayak? ) And to stay on topic: This thread has made me look forward to roasting my own pumpkins seeds. Mmmmm..... And there is just someting so festive about it.

I always cook them in the oven with a really thin coating of olive oil and garlic salt, whisch seems to make the shells less tough. I've never had store-bought pumpkin seeds, but I always eat the entire thing, though I do sometimes chew the seed apart and chew on just the shell for a while until it falls apart or loses its flavor.
