A very disgusting thread.
I was surfing the net last night and stumbled upon a rather gross fact site. I was also inspired by Clairity's..."lovely thread" to post this as well. Pin worms, seeable to the naked eye are worms that are passed from people scratching their butt area (usually in their sleep) to other people and often times back into their own digestive system by unconsciously touching their mouths.
Pinworms can infect one in five children. Symptoms are itching and irritation of the anus or vagina, digestive disorders, insomnia, irritability or nervousness. Female worms crawl out of the anus and lay about 15,000 eggs per day. Once airborne, the eggs can survive about two days anywhere in your living environment.
Worldwide, about 500 million are infected with pinworms. The worm is white and can grow to about half inch in length.
Considering there are a little over 6 billion people on earth...do the math. That's about 1 in 12 people who have pinworms living in their anus. The females come out of the anus during the night to lay eggs, occasionally a few larvae will make its way into the vagina. They lay eggs and make your butt itch so that you will uknowingly scratch it and spread the larvae. Pinworms, suprisingly, do not affect household pets, only humans and a few primates. The most shocking of this is that those that have it typically don't know they do...they just think their butt itches. Physicians say it's really nothing to be concerned about unless you are itching perfusely, then you should consult them. There is a way to see if you have pinworms. They call it a "pinworm paddle". What you do is take a tongue depressor (like doctors use) and stick scotch tape on the end of it and put it you know where. In the morning if you see little worms on the tape (they're typically .25 to a half inch in size) you will have your answer as to why your butt itches.
