2nd Job Interview, im shitting bricks!

So i have had an interview before but this one is in a completely different league, the pay is more and i need to wear something smart, it's been held at a racecourse (I don't know why) In a executive room, im going to be working as sales assistant in a big store, the pay is £6.50 an hour which is great being im 16, but what do you think they will ask me? Im not really a confident person and i have a damn problem with blushing, which is a damn pain in the backside..ahhhhhhhh It's on wednesday, how long do you reckon it will take?

They might ask you how you are with people, do you have any other experiance in that kind of stuff, why they should hire you, etc. Good luck!

For 6.50, the only requirement will basically be that you aren't doing crack.

meh tbh for under 18's £6.50..so bout what $10? an hour is very good. I am im 17 and i earn £4.80, working in a supermarket, i know friends who are paid even less then me(not by much but still, although one is like £3.40 ouch).

At 18 I will only get £6 an hour which for basic staff is pretty normal tbh, not enough to live on though. Obviously for me it's just part-time while being at college.

Minimum Wage here where I live is $7.90 or something like that. Anyway, if its anything like interviews I've had, they'll ask you "Give an example of when you did such and such" .

Yes, just lie your ass off about things they can't possibly check for validity on.

Exactly. They just want to make sure that you aren't like covered in tattoos or have a syringe sticking out of your arm. Don't worry about it. The hardest question will probably be "when you can you start?"

The best way to do well in an interview is to go in with the assumption that you actually deserve to get the job more than anyone else.

What is the bog store the interview is for?

Act like you really like the interviewer, as if he/she is an old friend or something. Laugh at the interviewer's jokes, have a lot of eye contact, act like doing the job will be a piece of cake and that you will really enjoy it, and never act like a question is hard, even when it is. However, still act like you mean business and that you take the idea of the job seriously. Make comments about things you have done that are like what the job involves and talk about how it is therefore right up your alley. Make sure you let the interviewer know that you very much want the job. If you get nervous, imagine the bizarre things the interviewer does when he plays with himself.

I earn £9,5/hour. On sundays I get paid 50% extra the first 2 hours and 100% all the hours afterwards.

I'd prepare for all of those generic questions like "tell me a time when you worked in a team," etc. Or just kind of have a clear picture in your mind of all your previous accomplishments when you go in. You prob won't have many, considering you're 16... which makes those questions really stupid anyway.

I had my first job at 16 or 17, and they asked me tons of that crap. I actually wasn't prepared at all but saved myself by appearing to be a nice person. :P Heh.

I am glad like this really, and that's all that matters to me. I'm living a healthier and wealthier life than most brits and americans do, from what I can tell.

Oh really? I just recently watched an interview with Noam Chomsky, and this is what he has to say:

There where like 30 of us in this big room, and about 5 at a time were selected to go and watch a short video and make notes on the good and bad things about the customer service, i then had to wait 15-20minutes untill i actually got interviewed, then a fat old cow:shock::shock: came and sat right next to me and i thought WTF FFS .
The interviewer was really nice and i think i did quite well:)

The lady said i will know by the 15th of Dec, and start in the new year, so untill then i'm getting a temp christmas job in a card shop :D

I agree. It's practically slave labour. And with school, you can't possibly be making enough money to do anything other than spend it on little stuff, or save it up and have like $500 to show for it a year later. Wow.

I made about £150 a month when I was 15, I'm making about £230 now. It's not much, but considering I just work 9-10 hours each weekend, I think it's quite okay, and I can buy a lot of cool things, like a new monitor, new PC and other things, without being worried about borrowing money and whatnot.

Did you need those things? Are you happier having a new monitor, or do you think you're happier? Has your quality of life improved enough to justify your labour? It just reeks of slavery to me.

In my case, having a job while in high school helped me to get a good job while in college. It's nice to start building experience at some point.

I can stop working whenever I want, I'm not deprived of personal freedom and I'm not really compelled, I just want cool stuff.

Did I need a new PC and a new monitor? I think I did, I spend all my time on front of the PC, so I might as well make is more comfortable. Playing games with 20 FPS and lagging around in windows all the time is not cool, and neither is a 17" CRT monitor in comparison to a 24" wide LCD monitor. I'm definitely happier with my new stuff.

And from the sound of it, your situation isn't even the worst case. Most wage workers require their paycheck for pay for their food and shelter. That's clearly slavery. Even if some of them can choose their master, they're still slaves. Why? If they stop working, they have no food (or they go the bread line). That's slavery, buddy.

I like Chomsky's notion, which is that wage workers should be given partial ownership of the company. That way, they profit from their labours and cannot be considered slaves.

I'm not in education at the moment, i don't know how you do it in america but i finished high school a few months ago with my GCSE's. I also did a college course in Business studies, so at the moment i'm not doing anything. And there are things a teen of my age needs without parents knowing ;)

I see your point, but you're thinking too deeply. There's always an alternative, but for slaves there isn't. Anybody can go start their own company, buy stocks somewhere, or get higher in the ranks. Become leaders. In the end we still go back to your "Most wage workers require their paycheck for pay for their food and shelter. That's clearly slavery.". We can never avoid this situation, and that is why I'd rather accept it as part of our world, that is required for things to work, than something evil that will kill us all.
Awarding everybody part-leadership of a company is in my opinion a rather stupid idea, and also somewhat communist. The truth is, some people are in a better position to lead a company than others, and some people would rather work for a leader and do their part, than lead a lot of people. I like being both the leader and the worker, but that doesn't mean I'm displeased that I'm not part of the leadership of the company I'm working for, because then it would go to hell. We produce about 40% of Denmark's cress, and we're only about 8 people actually working at location, and for me it's often less than 5 hours a day. I don't think I would be able to control such a big production. I would have to spend a lot of time learning how the entire thing runs around, and in the end, I'm mearly 17 years old and have absolutely no education in gardening, and am not planning to get one. I'm just working to earn some coin.

Once again I must remind you, that we can never avoid the situation where you are dependant on your pay-check (and thus making you a slave by your logic). That's simply not possible in our world, unless you live in an earthhole and eat birds for dinner.

When I mentioned ownership, I was thinking more along the lines of consequences regarding dividends or profit sharing than control. Obviously, it's very important for companies to have clear leadership.

And your other point was that there will always be people living off of paychecks. Well, the problem with these sorts of debates is that people don't properly define their parameters. It's true that taken in isolation within the current socioeconomic context, there obviously has to be people at the bottom. But that may not be true if the entire system was rebuilt from ground up. I know that sounds communist, and it may indeed be Marxist, but I think it's possible to reconcile the ideas of Marxism with anarcho-capitalism. In either case there can't be a government, so no problem there. The hard part would be arranging some sort of welfare system that made it so that people could actually choose to not work and expect to be well off (or at least be able to truly choose their career), yet still respect property rights. These are not easy things to accomplish, but I've been thinking about it a lot lately and so far I haven't come across any insurmountable obstacles.

I got my first job at 15 too, was about £200 a month, but it helped me to pay for things my parents couldn't afford to buy me.
