Thread: Do you talk to yourself?

Everyone does to some degree I think to myself all the time and occasionally speak out loud when no one else is around. Sometimes a reply will come out verbally when I'm not alone, but I just act like I didn't say anything.

The rest of you are sitting there thinking, "What kind of person talks to him/herself? I sure don't."

You see the quotation marks? My point exactly.

when i try to think things out i would be like "should i do this?" to myself, and id go "yeah why not". if you get what i mean. so i suppose i do.

i talk to myself in my head. sometimes i forget if i said something out loud or if I just thought it, usually it's the latter. Sometimes when I'm alone it comes out verbally, but only when i'm alone, and only sometimes.. it mostly goes on inside my head.

In my head here too. It's like a competely different person resides there. I often get lost in thought, and then "snap back" to reality. Then it usually takes me a while to remember what I was thinking a second ago.

I will prep for an interview or meeting by playing out the dialogue in my head in all the possible different scenarios that could happen, but that's about it.

I dont think its a problem, as long as you dont play it as two people.

Sometimes I will start talking to a friend then they will just start talking to someone else but I will continue talking even though I know nobody is listening to a word Im saying

yea i hate that. infact one time on my xbox, i was speaking to my friends through the mic, and it wasnt even turned on. so i was talking to myself.

Yeah, I do, but I don't answer myself. I do it a lot when I'm organising things.

I sometimes ask myself questions and answer them. I do it a lot when I am with friends and nobody is talking, or during art class. I will just sit there and think out loud and answer my own questions because nobody else is talking.

Oh, hell yeah. I do this all the time. When people are around I do it more silently. But when I'm alone, say in my car, I'll start shouting.

I talk to fictional characters, in my head, usually. I call it day dreaming.

Sometimes I will talk to myself though.

That's my study method for non-math/science courses. I talked myself through my psych. textbook (not reading it out loud). I pretended I knew nothing about psychology (or my reflection in a mirror, my pet fish), and then I'd teach it to myself (or the fish, or my reflection). Beause I was actually hearing what I was saying, I could identify more easily the things I needed to look at deeper.

I used to do this, when I thought verbally. But now I'm more of a visual thinker and so I don't feel a need to say things out to myself.

I suppose I often make it seem like it, dialogues etc. But its always entirely the same thing talking.

I talk to myself sometimes. Though usually when I'm stressed out and feel the need to verbalize my thoughts.

Yeah, I actually find my self much more interesting.

I talk to other people in my head, and imagine their reactions to a topic that I know will actually be talked about. This means when I actually talk to them I know what they're going to say.

If there's a number or a word I need to remember for a short moment, like if I'm tabbing around in FireFox, I usually say it out loud, because them seems to hook better in the memory than merely thinking.

Other than that, I often talk to myself in english, mainly to improve my pronounciation. That was atleast how it was in the start. I came to enjoy, and now I just generally do it, because it's funny. Don't ask me why.

When I was young, I often imagined that a huge audience was sitting on some seats, watching my life like a talk show, or a huge demonstration of how my life works. I would often tell them about why I did this and that, how that works and other kinds of stuff. It was one sided though, they never responded, because afterall they are the audience. This was something that went on till I was 10 or so, and it's not something that I did all the time, and I mostly did it in my head

it is like there's a guy in my head that i can run shit by if i need to. if i'm trying to figure out where i stand on an issue or something, i'll argue with him to try and figure it out.

it's not nearly as weird as it sounds.

your post reminds me of Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now." basically, by talking to himself he realized there were "two" selves, and that one of them had to be the real him. (the other one was supposedly the "ego") thus, that train of inquiry led him to a state he considered enlightenment.

but anyways, when it comes to me, I just think to myself....it's faster. don't really find a need to vocalize it, if that's what you're doin

In my head when thinking, maybe? But I'm quite boring so cannot imagine what a conversation with myself would be like...
