"The Shit Just Doesn't Make Sense!"

Ok...we all experience things that just don't seem logical. It could be because we are missing the point, or because the answer we suspect to be most logical is either ignored by (or shrouded from) popular awareness. No matter what, there is always some shit that just doesn't make sense.

So let us know what really makes you stop, scratch your head, and go "WTF??" Who knows...maybe someone else reading your post knows the answers which you seek. Maybe not. Either way; should be good times. :chuckle:

Just to start off: (And mostly for an example. I already realize the answer to this one, but it just hit me last night while I was watching t.v. and it's still just something that makes me go "that's so obviously ass-backwards is not even funny...")

Why is it that every commercial fed to the masses that has to do with marijuana (a relatively harmless drug) is written with the purpose of making all weed smokers look like idiotic, lethargic, useless and dangerous members of society...and then you see every single alcoholic drink commercial glorifying drinking, when alcohol is easily a much more dangerous substance?

Ugh...makes me sick.

Anyway...GO!

Yeah. Another commercial thing. They always try to create false needs. Here was this one RLS kick, with the same comercial for at least a week. RLS is rarer than schizophrenia...

Why is it, when someone asks you a question at your place of work (usually if it's retail or sales), do they immediatley think you're either bullshitting them or trying to fuck them over? Is society on a whole that un-trustworthy?

Well, I can't blame the consumers on this one. As someone that works in sales, I can only honestly state that a majority of the salesmen you will ever meet in your lifetime are trying to fuck you over. Salesmen thrive on the concept of "gray area." It is basically an arbitrary concept that means "I can lie to you up until the point where I, personally, feel like I'm telling you a bald-faced lie (a lie which many don't mind crossing). My objective is actually to confuse you to the point of compliance."

All I can say is that salesmen should expect this kind of reaction, as many to most salesmen are scumbags that will tell you what you what you want to hear, because they are in a line of business where (in many cases) every dollar in their pocket is based upon getting you to buy something, whether you actually want it or not.

But yeah...being one of the salesmen (in this case, telemarketers) that isn't down with blatantly lying for a living to make a buck, that paranoid stigma of the consumer makes my job that much harder.

I completely agree and all it really does is end up hurting people like me who try and go for something as simple as a walk around my own neighborhood. Cars stop, people look and the whole time I'm feeling this mountain of pressure while I'm just trying to enjoy the view and be friendly.

If any of you have played it...

In Castle Risk, when you lie down more than one reinforcement card in one turn, do you get two sets of reinforcements, or do the cards laid down simply stack?

Ex. 2 reinforcement cards are already on the board.

1st card=1 army.
2nd card=2 armies plus the value of the preceding cards. So basically 2 armies plus one. 3 Armies

My sister lays down 2 reinforcement cards. Does she get simply 4+3+2+1 OR does she get (3+2+1) + (4+3+2+1) for both of the reinforcement cards?

When I brought this up, my three other family members who I was playing Castle Risk with swore up and down she only received 4+3+2+1 armies, but seeing as one of them was drunk, one of them was 8 years old and the last one would bend the rules of board games to win, I wasn't happy with their line of reasoning.

Luckily, in the end it didn't matter as I stabbed my brother and sister in the backs after they stabbed my father in the back, so it was all good.

Don't know if anyone will know what I'm talking about, but meh.

I actually don't mind those. I think the main chick they have doing them has got a whole funny/cute/ditzy thing going for her, which usually makes me smile.

But, in keeping with the same point: GEICO commercials. I mean seriously. WTF? You mean to tell me that someone is paid to write that shit? They went from completely over-killing the cavemen, to a stack of money with eyes... I can't believe that such a huge corporation would even air half of the crap they put on their commercials.

Yea, Geico seems to have a problem with not knowing when they've over done something. The Caveman was funny for awhile, but it got old, fast. And just when you think they've finished, there's yet another Caveman commercial.

I may be able to answer that, only because I do it so much. Haha.

For me, sometimes it just takes a second for what was said to process. My mind might have been wandering, when the words were spoken, and I involuntarily felt the impulse to respond, before what was said really sank it. So, I end up saying "what?" as the sentence I'd just heard is piecing itself together in my head.

That's just me, though. :)

I've always wondered what people thought about that, though. No one's ever said anything about it, but I do it a lot. Lol.

I once bought like 7 pairs of socks that had the weekdays on them but I don't remember a single instance where I actually wore 2 corresponding socks at the same time. You would think that by chance I'd get it right at least once, alas, not a single time. Not even talking about wearing them on the correct day either, that would be overkill.

A lot of times, people know what I said and then say, "What?" and don't go ahead and answer. They just keep acting like they didn't hear me, and I feel the need to ask the question again.

That reminds me of something else. I will be in a conversation about ONE person for a while, and then I will ask a question about that person like, "Where is he living these days?" and the person I am talking to will go, "Who?" My response is always, "The person we are talking about."

Also, I will be talking to the only other person in the room for a few minutes and be talking only about that person and then ask that person a question and get the response of, "Who, me?" Who else???????

I can answer this one pretty easily.

I have a hearing problem, which exacerbates this by a whole bunch. There are two reasons why I say what and then answer as if I heard.

1) I say what out of habit sometimes since my hearing is so bad that what is almost always how I have to answer

2) My hearing is bad, but good enough that most of the time it just takes me more time to process what people say. This means that at first I don't hear them, but after a few seconds of sub-conscious processing, I remember it as if I had heard them and then know what they said.

This is true for me as well. Bad hearing runs in my family, for the men anyway. I have to pay close attention to people's inflections and various context clues. A lot of times I just nod my head and pretend that I heard what someone said - people can get pretty annoyed when asked to repeat themselves (as we've seen in this thread :P thanks guys).

Yes! Its amazing at how good I am at picking out when someone is asking a question and when they are just expecting me to smile and nod. Unless I'm talking with someone that I am pretty comfortable with, I only ask them to repeat themselves when they ask a question that I don't hear and can't infer from the rest of the conversation.

I blame the drug commercials as well, and the fact that doctors are encouraged to prescribe the newest drugs on the market.


Another thing:
Why is it that controlled substances like cocain, lsd, and methamphetamines have a higher scheduling than marijuana and psilocybes? The first two are extremely addictive, potent, and sythetic. The other two are much more mild, much less addictive, and grow naturally. Also, I've never heard of anyone dying from the last two either....I'm not sure where crack and--in my mind the scariest of all--prescription pills fall on that spectrum, but I probably don't want to know...

Why is it that nurses/other hospital staff seem so incredibly inept at inserting IV's and taking blood? I've had to point out my own veins to more than one, only to have them still miss them...just thinking, shouldn't you have more experience with this sort of thing than I do?

2. With all of the incredible technology being developed today, why am I still using gasoline? It burns at what, 26% (give or take) efficiency for the average car, right? This question is rhetorical. 3. I don't get this particular commercial. It brings out every ounce of insanity inside me, and makes me want to do terrible things. Are these things selling? How are they selling? Do people really not know how to use a blanket now to the point that they feel compelled to order a cultist robe that comes with a free book light as a gimmick (the book light is another WTF in itself)?

One thing that I wonder is why people watch those stupid shows where people renovate their houses. I honestly want to throw up whenever I one. They have zero entertainment value, use cheesy humor, and are downright boring and stupid. There are shows SO much better than this crap.
