Thread: Moderators and Priviledge abuse!

Let me cover a few things...

A) "What happened to freedom of speech" - If people threatened to assasinate the president, it is kind of out of the "freedom of speech" thing already...
B) To make societies run smoothly, there needs to be rules. Of course there is "freedom of speech" but sometimes it isn't appropriate to say certain things at certain times. In "real life" you can't go gallivanting around yelling at people for liking a certain president, it isn't acceptable and here at Dreamviews, we are trying to run a smooth "society".
C) Give me one example of a Moderator who is biased or abusing there privilege. The moderators here are respectful toward your opinion, but along with "freedom of speech" here at America, you have the right to your own opinion and religion and no one has the right to force it on you any way shape or form. Moderators are just locking threads and deleting posts when they realize that the people, yes, you, are abusing your "freedom of speech". Once they realized that people are getting offended then THAT is when they lock threads or delete threads. We are just trying to run a smooth, friendly forum here.
D) Not everyone lives in America.

Anyways, if you have a problem with the moderators report it to the adminstrators and let them "deal with the moderators." If we can't change things for you, I suggest Ld4all. They seem like friendly enough people. Not saying you should leave, but if you are worried about your ability or dissability to speak your mind here they say that they never censor things.

Well I am sorry you feel this way. I believe that the administraters took great care in tryng to pick out fair moderators. I'm not sure what occured for you to have such a grudge. Maybe you should consider PMing an admin. with your concerns. I can attest that they are fair.

If I might add something, I've noticed a large number of threads go on for pages without resolving anything, and just contributing to heated, meaningless debates (much like CNN Crossfire). The same thing gets repeated over and over again, and emotions get in the way of reason. State a point without making a personal judgment, agree that other people have the right to their opinions, and leave it at that.

I, personally think you owe the mods an apology...here they are working hard to keep the forum a friendly, welcoming, clean, fun, and informative (etc.) place that also welcomes open debate in an unobtrusive, constructive manner...and here you are, offended...yet crucifying all of them IN GENERAL because you are ticked off about something. Can you say...MISDIRECTED ANGER?? Take a breath man, it'll be ok.

I know how it is though when you feel passionately about something...it's easy to get angry.

People should be censored for stupid comments which evoke negative emotion and don't prove anything when the objective of the community is something else. People should not be censored for rational, logical arguments with evidence to back them up, or something interesting or inspiring. That's what this place is about.

I'd love to read someone who praises something Bush has done, as long as he/she can back it up with some real proof. That's what freedom of speech entails. There are certain places where people can tire themselves out by spewing hatred at one another, and this is not one of those places. Would you go to a wedding wearing sweat pants and a ripped tank top? Control in this sense is in the name of productivity and decency. You can go to a Nascar race without wearing a tux because the focus isn't on the outfit. One focus at a wedding IS on the outfit however, just like the focus of this message board is that everyone can contribute something valuable to the community. If you don't like it, go somewhere else.

I'm sorry but I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about; the moderator responsbilities do not include anything about editing posts (the only two methods of action we officially sanction here are locking threads and deleting them, and it states very clearly in the responsibilities list that that course of action is to be used as a last resort). Please be very specific in regards to what you refer, and then I can look into it further.

well....somone has edited my post.... I just changed my password in case that had somthing to do with it.... but my posts have been tampered with.. on more than one occasion

The issue has been resolved...

i don't change messages in posts... the only time i edit them is to get a picture to work, or in rare cases when i know the poster and they know that it's in good fun. i don't delete posts unless they interfere with the thread's goal... ie. a thread that says "pictures and only pictures"

i don't know of the other mod's behaviors but i'll vouch for them because they have the same respect for this forum and its members as i do. it seems like you're just looking for something to bitch about and frankly if you're looking for something to get pissed about i suggest you leave because we don't need your negativity burdening the rest of the forum.

you make absolutely no case... you give no instances of this happening and you just come off as an irate a-hole.

this isn't some open forum... this is privately owned... we'll take out anything grotesque or offensive if we see fit... if you don't like it... leave. we will not pull something out just because we want to see our agendas pushed through... this isn't politics... get your head out of your ass.

if you read through all of my posts... u will find the insident i was refering to...

this is just some friendly advice..... think before you speak asswhipe. (which is probably something i need to work on also... but i thought i'd pass it to u... seeing the present case....)

I am bi polar.. but i did post all the posts in this thread....

although i had wondered if somone else was using my id.... so i changed my password..

again, we're looking into it and i'll see what happened. i'll also amend the responsbilities list of moderators and DGs to explicitly state that editing posts is not permissible (unless correcting formatting, having reasonable fun with a friend, or removing something that is completely offensive etc.) generally again though, we try to lock or delete instead of editing, and that is again a last resort (and it should be followed by the moderator PMing the offending user so he or she knows why the action was taken). plus, i think we've got a pretty great bunch of moderators...if we didn't, well we wouldn't be as popular as we are.

please keep in mind, though, that the default registration disclaimer on phpBB forums states that offensive material can be censored, and that's a good policy...if it wasn't a good policy, there'd be a public outcry in regards to the tens of thousands of phpBB forums stating that. everyone is always welcome to express their opinions here, but there's a difference between incessantly attacking someone and stating one's opinion...ultimately we have to strive to keep the majority of people happy here. regardless, to my knowledge, that's never really been much of a problem.


anyway, hopefully we can clear this up soon without any more negativity!
