IE- Too lazy to download anything else when home and can't download anything in the office....
Firefox. Why use a squeaky old tricycle when you can use a brand new sportscar instead?
cause chicks dig guys with tricycles?
I use both.
Safari… because why fight your computer when you can make love to it?
Well, it's kinda easy to put in perspective which one is better. If we personify them to be my mom, it would be like this.
IE
IE: I found this thing in the back of the dumpster for dinner. Now piss off and eat it. I ran it through some fairy liquid stuff first though, so it's nice and shiny. Not sure about those nasty oil stains though.
Me: What is it?
IE: Dinner.
Me: No, as in, what food is it?
IE: Er. Dinnerfood.
Me: You don't really know what it is do you?
IE: Umm...er...*crash*
Firefox
Firefox: I prepared the banquet for you, sir.
Me: Okay. Take me there.
Firefox: Certainly, sir. *lifts me up and takes me to the chair*
Me: Hmm. Nice. Except i'm too lazy to eat it myself, can you chew it for me?
Firefox: Yes sir.
Me: And when you're done, do my homework for me.
Firefox: Of course sir.
Bell rings.
Firefox: I'll get it for you sir.
Firefox opens door.
IE: Please let me back! I'll be a good mom! Oidnest!
Social Services drag IE away.
IE: NooooooOooooooooooooooooooooo. ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. ooh.
lmao, kaniaz, that's awesome.
...i like safari though. it's nowhere near as bitchy as firfox was for me, though i suspect the version i had was still pretty buggy... it was a while ago, and safari's lovely.
I usually use IE, but I just downloaded firefox yesterday to see what all the commotion was about. I still don't really see what all the commotion is about.... the tab concept is stupid, because that's what the taskbar is for (luckily it can be disabled), and it keeps playing sounds in crappy quicktime and I can't figure out how to make it stop, though I thouroughly checked out Tools>Options and the search in the help file turned up nothing for "audio", "sound", "multimedia" or anything else. Also, cookies aren't working with some sites even though they aren't blocked. As for speed, I can't tell the difference. I'll probably keep using firefox if I can fix the few problem I have with it soon, but I definately could have lived with explorer instead. I just don't see the what the huge fuss is all about! :|
lol, tabbed browsing is great if you're browsing, chatting with people, browsing files and folders and editing them in various programs all at the same time ... like I do usually. hehe.
What audio is played in is set by your explorer, not Firefox, i think... *shrug* The tabbed browsing concept is great, i mean...it's just better.
I, too, use Safari. :D
I use Firefox to fight Microsoft hegemony (and resultant stagnation). Tabs, me likey. Nothing pisses me off like a taskbar full of explorer windows. So it's irrational; deal with it.
How could anyone not like tabs? I guess you don't need them if you only ever view one website at a time, but I like to have many open at once. For example, right now I have 8 tabs open. Those would otherwise take over my entire taskbar.
Also, pop-up blocking. Ever go to a porn site and have 33 popups pop up and confuse you? Well, no more. Just say no to popups! There are some pop-up blockers for IE but those are seperate programs and that is just stoopid. (also, most of them aren't free)
And adblock. It's one of the "must have" extensions. Yes, you can block ads from your browser. I don't use it on ads that aren't annoying, but those flashing ads in the middle of the page no one likes have got to go. Two clicks, and you never have to see ads from that site again.
Better control over cookies. Now YOU can decide what sites can set cookies and what sites can't. If cookies aren't working, and you want them to, you're doing something wrong!
Note that some lame sites "require" IE to access, but those sites are just stupid and you shouldn't view them anyway.
Flash, Shockwave and Java DO work. You just have to get the correct plugins.
Plus there's a whole universe of extensions that can add even more features.
People who use IE are like the people who still wash their clothes by hand, instead of just getting a freaking washing machine already. Yeah, it might be a tiny bit more complicated at first, but it's sooooo much easier, and better, etc.
So if you haven't yet, get Firefox now:
http://www.mozilla.org/
And give it a real chance. Don't just use it for two minutes and then think "Aaah! This is new to me so it must suck, back to IE for me".
Yeah, I just visit one site at a time so I don't need the tabs (also, I really hate toolbars and always want as much possible space on my screen taken up by the website I'm looking at, not other junk). Also, I'm loving the whole customizable cookies thing right now.
Maybe you could help me out here. I was trying to view a flash file, and a window came up telling me to install something so I can view flash. So a few clicks later it says something like "firefox is installing plugin", and then it just stays like that for so long that it can't possibly still be downloading (I have cable). I had to just cancel the whole thing. What's up with that?Quote:

...i just feel the need to point out that all the things that have just been listed in firefox's favor, safari is equally adept in.
Well, I'll admit that the "auto download plugin" thing is still pretty stupid and annoying, but you can still download it manually.Quote:

Flash
Shockwave?
Then install it manually. Just go to where you saved it and run it there. Or press CTRL-J (to open Firefox's recent downloads list) and press "open" next to the file you just downloaded. I'm not sure about the exact steps but I think it'll detect Firefox and install it for you there.
im just going to skip past all those comments after Nina's post
anyway..
1. ROFL at kaniaz's post. classic
2. I use firefox
3. im done, goodbye.
It seems that Firefox is the clear winner!!! :D GOOOO FIREFOX!!!!
IE, for one simple reason; it works fine, and it's already installed and there's no getting rid of it anyways, so why waste the room by having two?
I used to be an avid Netscape supporter, I refused to use IE, but that was before it became embedded in the system, and was also back in the day before Netscape sold out. Then I went through my days of being a linux zealot and I used some of the earliest versions of mozilla, and opera, and everything else under the sun to show my lack of appreciation towards MS.
Now... I've gotten over being a zealous computer nerd. IE does what I need it to do. It sucks from time to time, but it's not really IE's fault, it's Windows itself. Since I can't get rid of Windows, IE stays.
...and this is y i have a mac.
Firefox is SIMPLY DELIGHTFUL.
Only thing that irritates me is that the "New Email" button on MSN Messenger FORCES you to use Internet Explorer. I mean, I don't hate it, but it irritates me...
I use Firefox, but I must check my email (at least my hotmail one) in IE. :(
Cheers,
Dylan
dude, try playing around in your settings; it switches to IE because it's the default for your whole set-up, u can switch that to firefox.Quote:

I've actually tried... firefox is my default browser for everything else... even opening pictures and links in Msn conversation windows... but just not the email button. I think because it's made by microsoft, that might have something to do with it.
...i repeat: this is why i have a mac.
windows SUCKS.
