As I believe he stated, it's that most vegetarians (I never said I was assuming the OP is) argue that they eat grain and whatnot to save the lives of animals.
See, non-vegetarians eat the animals they kill. The irony is by eating the grains, vegetarians are increasing the number of animals killed in the grain harvest.
Maybe you should read the entire article before trying to say something.
Either way, the notion that using other animals as food somehow constitutes "animal murder" is nothing but fuckdiculous. Like eating plants is somehow not as bad, just because they're non-sentient. Who the hell cares if an animal "has feelings"? Lions don't think twice about killing a zebra for food. Polar bears don't shed tears of remorse as they chow down on walrus flesh. Humans are still animals, my boy, and to say that for one animal to kill for food is different than for another animal to do the same...is a clusterfuck of dried buffalo jizz, and I think we all know it.
@OP: If your original reason for going vegetarian is simply to live healthy, then more power to you, and I apologize for the rant...but somebody had to say it. Animal rights activists drive me nuckin' futs.
We're at the top of the food chain. Why not take advantage of it?
Real men go balls to the wall and eat plants only. Are you a real man?
Did you even read the article?
The point is, even though it takes more grain to raise an animal than a human, we're eating the animals. The animals that are killed in harvesting for vegetarians are just brutally crushed and left to die. And are you arguing that because non-vegetarians kill more animals in harvesting than non-vegetarians, that makes the ones that are killed for vegetarian diets are negligible? The simple statement "You kill more than we do", doesn't take away the fact that vegetarians are still killing animals.
And you can't say it's not intentional, because you know that by having your diet, you're killing the animals that get killed in harvests. And it's not even like all of this would matter if most vegetarians weren't on some strike for the greater animal rights, and how us meat eaters are brutally murdering animals to eat. I don't go out and shove my mentalities down vegetarians throats everyday, but vegetarians do.
And for the second time, read the article before you try and make an argument he already addressed.
Amazeo, get a life. If you wanna try to convince everyone and yourself that eating meat is guiltless, go on. I wish you knew the conditions in which the animals you eat are raised. Next time you eat chicken, remember that chicken was boiled alive to remove the feathers while keeping the meat fresh.
Also, the killing more thing is an argument, don't say it isn't. It doesn't make the animals that die because of veggie diets negligible, but the many others that die in a non-veggie diet are not negligible either.
Also, raising the animals is more costly, uses land inapropriately, wastes biological energy and takes an incredible amount of water. And I won't even start on the whole healthiness shit. Also, meat is more prone to being a disease vector than vegs.
And I'm not a vegetarian, nor intend to be one, for the record. I believe it is natural for humans to kill animals and eat them. But next time, don't criticize the veggies, but the veggy media and industry instead. If you eat meat, kudos; but please, respect the ones who don't. This thread's title isn't "what do you think of vegetarianism", but "going vegetarian soon. tips?".
Vegetarians feel cool, because they kill less animals in the end.
Non-vegetarians feel cool, because they kill more animals in the end.
Non-vegetarians don't really care about how many animals are killed or under what kind of conditions, atleast I don't. The entire "You make animals suffer" argument is something vegetarians made up, so that they can feel super morally and ethically correct, and attempt to make non-vegetarians feel like evil people, when they really aren't. In the end it doesn't matter if an animal suffers before it's slaughtered or not, and you know it.

Also, blanket statements. Not all vegetarians feel 'better than thou' for lack of meat in their diet, and none of the vegetarians that I know shove their philosophy down other peoples throats.
Ugh, I splitted this. Please try to keep off topic stuff in this thread hence forth. The guy was asking for tips.
I think it's great that some people are vegetarians, but when they think they are doing good for the world and the meat eaters are killing innocent animals is where I get a bit ticked off. I would rather us not be as brutal to the animals we kill, but you cannot worry about every animal and plant that you affect in the world.
It ticks me off when people assume I think they're innocent-animal-killers when I mention my vegetarianism. :? This is not directed at you clutch, just saying.
Are you familiar with industrial agriculture at all?Quote:
The entire "You make animals suffer" argument is something vegetarians made up
I think what Xox was getting at is more the aggressive/defensive mode a lot of people go into the moment anyone mentions vegetarianism (witness Amazeo and Lezen). You turn down a cocktail weenie and you're subjected to a ten minute rant/inquisition about how your lifestyle doesn't make any sense, topped off with the ever-ironic and hypocritical, "And why do you people have to shove it in my face?" It gets old fast.
I'm curious about something, is "organic" food actually more healthy? Or is it simply a "make animals live a better life" thing?
