I would buy it...but I have jack shit of an idea how to run a site. Plus, I also would have to drop out of college. Or start working my ass off again.

Therefore, I recommend MoS purchase it. He's a great admin; he'd be a great owner as well. If we're pooling cash for someone, what's the minimum one should donate?

I suggest we give it to someone who actually knows something about LDing for a change of pace. No one will disagree that it was better with Seeker around...

There are better ways to monetize a purchase other than enforcing membership fees on existing services.

For example, a model Sirius XM used to maximize profits was to keep the cost of the user's existing content lineup the same while charging for new content introduced as a result of the merger. Perhaps a "Premium Forum" of some sort could be added by the new owner.

But even still, with a website there are ways you can beef up return without directly charging the users.

the owners (whoever they may be) provide nothing more than hosting

for any sort of subscription to even be viable, the site operators would need some sort of product

i still think some people should pool their money and group buy dv

This would fall under what goes in that forum. Unfortunately, ideas escape me.

All I could really think of are documents and published info by experts of lucid dreaming and book publishers, all available right on the forum...but of course this would require copyright royalties which would drive the "premium" cost way up past viability. Any subscription service worth purchasing by users is going to require some additional investment.

Does anybody have money they would seriously consider contributing to this if other people did?

I personally think the prices being thrown around are absolutely stupid

I think a far better use of money would be to host a rival site, and entice people over by providing a better service

I see DV makes a revenue of about $600 a month with a profit of $500/month... where would that money go if people do throw in to buy it?
Would we all get cut a monthly check worth whatever percentage we helped out with?

I think the people who did maintenance on the site would get a little more than the rest, for their work.

Honestly I do not think anyone in their right mind will dish out that kind of money to host this site, unless he/she has money to burn.

It's an investment; you purchase it with the expectation that it will ultimately net you more than what you paid for it.
