I think everyone should watch this movie and then lets talk about it. What do you think of the predictions? What would you do if it did happen? Do you think we'll let it get that bad?

...if that's copyrighted, it's gonna get pulled.
BTW, I'm not sure how many people are going to spend eighty minutes watching a video to discuss.
1. If you don't have time to watch it, i'll provide a small synopsis with the points that were introduced and predictions given.
2. It's really worth the watch
Well science is coming up with new things every day. I'm confident we will find some other way to run our world without FF. Then we don't have to worry. But if for some reason we don't, we pretty much may die
Nah, it's safe.
Youku is just China's answer to youtube, because Youtube is blocked there, to my knowledge.
Precisely. And you have access to a good bit of it. Not all, I'm sure, but still quite a bit. Thing is, you've never ventured to those sections of the internet because everything you Google is in English. In fact, there is a whole Japanese internet as well, and many others.Quote:
It's weird. There must be like a whole other internet but bigger, purely in chinese.
sonovabitch this shit was derailed quick as hell.... also Carousoul, i love you man
I'm still waiting for a synopsis
I also want a synopsis.
Video Synopsis: Basically it show a world as it runs out of fossil fuels, suffers sever famine and sickness. The human race is reduced to a small percentage of it's current numbers, and we're reverted back to hunter gatherers. It shows us ignoring a neglect our responsibility to live in a take and sustainable way with this planet and the near-annihilation of the human race is what we reap. Scientists weight in and state that if we don't act now then by the year 2100 life on earth will be a literal hell on earth.
but if we don't, if we do fuck up, and it does all go to hell... do you think you would be a survivor. I honestly can say if it happens in this time frame yes i would, if any sooner... no i would probably die off with the masses
You're so depressing man. my family will tough it out
By that time, we won't need fossil fuels.
We already have technology that doesn't require it at all, I'm sure that one day we will be living off of things other than fossil fuels.
Hehe I was just on youku yesterday. Weird. Never seen it before yesterday and now it's linked in this thread haha
Yeah the chinese have a whole massive section of internet of just like alternate english sites. Like they have myspace and facebook and shit but all chinese lol Funny people.
Alright I'm gonna watch this now and comment later.
Oh yeah and that sites slow as shit. Takes so long to load.
Debatable.
We have technology to produce paper faster, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly than wood, and we don't use it. In fact, we've had this technology since the 1800's.
Similarly, alternative fuels have been around since before the 1970's. And in the 70's, we had a fuel crisis. Did we learn from it? Did we start switching to these alternative fuels? It's been nearly 40 years, and what do we have to show for it? Well, we've had another fuel crisis. . . But that's certainly not a sign of improvement. Oh! I know! We have our token "hybrid" cars. That's great. We've got cars that run on fossil fuels and electricity. Er, where does our electricity come from, again? Coal, you say? And last time I checked, coal's a fossil fuel, too!
So, heh, if that's all the "improvement" we've made within the last 40 years, since our last oil crisis, then how much do you think we'll "improve" in the next 40?
The core reasons we still use trees as paper and oil as fuel are the same, just so y'know.
Yeah, we'll probably be on another planet by then. There has already been another planet like Earth been found, but it is too close to its sun to be a live-able planet.
But it's all so terribly censored. Fun game:
Go to Google images
Type in "Tienanmen Square."
Go to Chinese Google images

I watched an interview once, just a reporter showing the tank man picture, and asking some Chinese university students what it was. Nobody knew, none of them recognized it. And of course, they had no clue what happened in June 1989.
;
Ha, I wouldn't bank on that, either. It's been 40 years and our satellites haven't even made it that far. And you expect us to whip up a manned interstellar mission*? It's been 40 years, and you know what our space plan is for 2020? Return to the moon. Now, I'm not a rocket scientist, but at this rate we ain't goin' nowhere any time soon.
*We're still having trouble working out the /medical/ kinks to sending people to Mars. Also, here on Earth, we can't figure out the right ratios of dirt/farmland/water for a couple people to live sustainably in a constructed closed biosphere (spoiler: Earth is one giant closed biosphere, too) (another spoiler: the BIOS-3 biosphere project went through ten trials, the longest which lasted 180 days). What makes you think we'll be able to figure out that secret in time for a flee to space? So. Much. Wrong with your assupmtion.
Fail. If we don't get rid of fossil fuels pretty much entirely by 2015 the planet will basically be in a self sustaining warming mode. Because it will be warmed up enough that the ice caps will keep melting, warming the Earth continuously. As well as excess water vapour in the air which warm the atmosphere too.
