      The DV Book of Records

      Hey guys,

In this post I will keep on listing all statistical records of DV.

First of all, DV is not only the biggest lucid dreaming community in the world, but also the worlds biggest dreaming community in general.

Records we broke since I took over DV on Dec 8 2009:

      1. Most posts ever made in one day: 3,961 (April 4, 2010)
      2. Most new registrations in one day: 123 (April 26, 2011)
The old record was 110, made on April 11, 2011.
      3. Most registered users ever online in one day: 693 (February 3, 2010)
The peak-average of registered users online on one day used to be about 450 while now it is 550+.
      4. Most users online at the same time: 1,110 (February 4, 2010)
The old record was 868, made in 2007.
      5. Chat: Most users in chat at the same time: 51 (August 6, 2011)
The old record was 50, made on January 19, 2011.

Records we still have to break (only 1 left ):

      • Most new threads per day: current daily average is about 60, while the alltime record was 236 made in Oct 8 2007 although the daily average there was like 40, so there must've been some structural changes on that day causing this figure...

All figures including the visitors, the daily threads'n'posts plus the user activity go up continuously.

Thanks to all of you guys for making DV to what it is: the Biggest and the Best.

      Let's keep it rollin'

Those two records probably won't be broken until September, that's when there is usually a big influx of new members

I wonder what the correlation between new members and the drop in age is

      More individual glorification.

These communal records are socialist nonsense.

      Sad isn't it.

Why do you think it's September anyway?

Because all the kids and people go back to school and work, and so are more motivated to investigate escapism?

September is the 8th month of the year. This correlates with the law of fives via 2^3=8, 2+3=5.

Glad I could settle this for you all.

I joined during a September and it seems that my case could be pretty typical. It was my first semester of college and a dorm mate that I had recently met described lucid dreaming to me. I realized that I'd had a handful as a child (in my experience, most people have had at least one), so I got pretty excited about it, Googled it, and prompty ended up here. The reason I think this could be fairly typical is that the majority of the DV community are school-age, and so the beginning of the academic year represents a time of significant social change, an influx of new perspectives, etc. In short, more opportunities to learn about lucid dreaming from various acquaintances. This is true for any student, but especially true for someone making the transition to college.

This is probably little more than a plausible theory, though. I actually posted some traffic stats a while back (here; unfortunately you need CT access to view this), and there didn't seem to be any evidence for a spike in registrations during September. I didn't spend much time on making the graphs easily interpretable, but if you count back the days (denoted as obs = observations) from the time of that post until you get to the general Septemberish area, there's just nothing interesting going on there. There is probably good reason to doubt the validity of the traffic measure, but the registration data should be pretty solid.

Errrhhm. I suggested Alex make this thread, I thought people would actually be interested to know this sort of stuff. Maybe I was wrong though.

Because everyone goes to school and have a lot of time between classes so they search the web and stumble on our little site. Also, lots of students, especially freshmen have to take a psych gen-ed.

I tend to have less time during work or whatever.

I'd imagine people do more web browsing in free periods when they have more time.

That's a rather bold generalized assumption don't you think?

      es·cap·ism (-skpzm)
      n.
The tendency to escape from daily reality or routine by indulging in daydreaming, fantasy, or entertainment.
I would think more members join for the purposes of escaping the rat race of life than those who join because they're taking a psych class and are studying dreams.

      http://www.google.com/trends?q=lucid...ate=all&sort=0

Looks like interest has been dying out in the dream department...and check out where the 2007 spike occurs. Coincidence?

      http://www.google.com/trends?q=lucid...ate=all&sort=0

Now this is interesting...lucid dreaming has nothing on dreaming in general...but again notice the 2007 spike in interest. WTF happened?

That's a helluva lot of views...and in 15 pages, only one bad review.

Thats crazy. September is probably the busiest month for me. (Who has time then??) I always thought activity died down during September because everyone went back to school. It's usually a tad more active during the summer, with more free time.

      Strange.

Well, everyone goes to school in late August, got all of their classes figured out, all their books are bought, and they have an hour or two between classes. Not enough time to have a job, too much time to stay on campus. Go home and surf the web

The DV Avatar/Sig Shop was Stiky'd today! YAY Thanks DV!
I'm so proud! This is the best forum site i've been to so far, it has such a diverse community that all have something in common that is so profound it breaks down barriers in contemporary stereotypes. This forum does a better job at bringing diversity under one banner than most other sites. I'll definitely be recommending it to anybody that asks me about Lucid Dreaming. In the words of Jeff DV ftw!

Haha congrats mate on being the "CEO" of the DV Avatar/Sig Shop. Especially now that it IS official. I take my hat off to you since you took the initiative to create such an already successful venture on DV.
