      The Best Part of Scottland

there is so much more i could post, but the thread would lag badly.

I'm in love with the Isle of Skye and have planned my whole life towards settling there in my late 30's-40's

I went to Scotland. Tried to take some money out.

They gave me worthless paper. I burnt it as soon I was south of the border.

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE QUEEN ON THIS TOY MONEY?

      Wow, really, MM?

Did you know, they are known for still using/knowing Gaelic there.
Of course, English is still obviously their primary language, but a lot of them there speak Gaelic fluently.

And sindred, lol. I hate the difference in Scottish and English money, a lot of places in England don't accept Scottish money, but everywhere in Scotland accepts English money. (And it's all still the same currency)

And that's one of the many reasons I dislike England.

I plan on learning Gaelic in the near future actually. I'm trying to find the best possible way to accomplish it.

lol. I don't know why people would prefer England to Scotland. Forget the scottish society, I'm talking about the actual country. It's so much more beautiful than England. Skye is especially beautiful. The english wanted more space for buildings, roads and farmland so they levelled pretty much every hill in their country. But if you come to Scotland, the place is nothing but hills and mountains, and that's what makes it beautiful. It has remained untouched, apart from the odd castle and chippy here and there.

Well done on creating this thread slash. It's about time we scottish were recognized for our brilliance. We should have a film dedicated to us! (Braveheart is full of historical inaccuracies, so that doesn't count)

      To Scotland!

A bit of confusing contradiction there, HS.

You say "I don't know why people would prefer Scotland to England", and then you go on to talk about how good Scotland is.

I'm guessing you just put Scotland and England the wrong way round.

But yes, I agree with you, it is a beautiful place.
The only thing that ruins it are the fucking neds. It's strange how such uncivilised, unpleasant bastards could come from such a good-looking, calm-looking country.

You're right, I did get them the wrong way round. Damn my clumsiness! But it's all fixed now.

And yes, the bloody neds do ruin the peaceful atmosphere. I'm sick of trying to get to sleep on the weekends whilst listening to the sound of "Haw haw haw, where's ma bucky big man?". It's troubled youth. I have a theory that the english chavs are having a bad effect on the teens of Scotland. The problem should melt away once we break the alliance with England and become independant.

If you find me a rich ned, you let me know.

Neds typically come from poor backgrounds. But I wouldn't say they are like rednecks.

I met a Scottish guy this summer in Switzerland. He had two Coronas (cheap Mexi beer for you neds) in his back pockets and he was a rugby player or football player or some shit. We had a smoke. Decent fellow.

He was no Englishman, however. Better teeth.

      NED = Non Educated Delinquent

I'm always surprised that so many english people don't know what a ned is. Makes a lot more sense than chav.

And an interesting NOTE (heh) about scottish money; it's not actually legal tender ANYWHERE, even in scotland. It's a contract promising to pay the bearer the amount indicated on the note:

"Scottish and Northern Irish banknotes are unusual, firstly because they are issued by retail banks, not central banks, and secondly, as they are not legal tender anywhere in the UK – not even in Scotland or Northern Ireland – they are in fact promissory notes. Indeed, no banknotes (even Bank of England notes) are now legal tender in Scotland or Northern Ireland."

But anyway, I've lived in Scotland nearly all of my life and I'm head over heels in love. The cities are generally awful (except Edinburgh, and parts of Glasgow) but I can't get enough of the hills. The west coast is just so breathtakingly beautiful and wild. I hillwalk a lot and just the thought of being in the hills makes me feel happy.

I think it's a great place to visit if you want to see some beautiful scenery. Saying that I know a lot of Americans who found it hard to settle in at first, I suppose it's very different from over there.
