      eek. I've been bad

I have been in a cast for almost 3 weeks now from a broken ankle. The other day I wanted to see if it would hurt if I put weight on my foot. My doctor told me NO weight at all, but I just couldn't resist. I'm so impatient, and I think I'm all healed. haha. but It didn't hurt, and I've been putting weight on it now and then. But I don't want to make it worse....

so my question is if it doesn't hurt to put weight on it, is it still bad to do so?

I'm sorry if this sounds stupid or what not, i'm running on no sleep here.

Well doctors are always very careful with stuff like that. So chances are, it is probably okay. I wouldn't go running or jumping on it, but its probably alright to put a little weight on it now and then.

Of course you always have to ask yourself. Is it worth being in a cast for another 3 weeks, just so you can walk around on it? Either way, don't push it. Just because it doesn't hurt now, doesn't mean you wont wake up tomorrow in pain and a swollen foot because you pushed yourself to much the day before.

I'd stick to what your doctor says. He's the expert, not us ragtag internet kids.

Putting weight on it might make it heal more slowly, but I don't think it would be too terrible... I actually have no clue what I'm talking about, don't listen to me. Go with what Black Eagle said.

Doctor's advice. Consider the example in which you damage a joint while participating in an athletic activity and keep off it for a while so that it may heal. You'll find that eventually you can carry out day to day activities without feeling pain or soreness of any kind in that joint, but if you were to go back to whatever activity had caused it, you shouldn't be surprised to find the pain return rather quickly, as the lack of pain does not always indicate that the damage was fully healed to begin with.

You don't fuck with broken bones - major joints, especially.

Simple reason why not? Doing so could keep the bone from setting/healing right...permanently. Hopefully you haven't already done irreparable damage to it.

Hmm. You might not be feeling pain anymore, but it may be that the bone is still fragile. Getting used to the weigh again should be a good thing, but this must involve extreme care, just like in physiotherapy.

Remember the ligaments in the ankle are very strong, and if strong tension is put on them, they might cause damage to the bone.

If you indeed think you're better now, go visit your doctor. He'll ask for an x-ray to know if you're fully healed or not.
