      Things You're Grateful For

Since research has shown that one of the best ways to increase happiness/relieve depression is to write down things that you're grateful for on a weekly or daily basis (and they're not necessarily comparisons on how you're better than others), I thought this thread would be a good idea.

Write down 5 things you're grateful for. You can post as much as you feel like.

      1) I'm going to the best animation school I could possibly ask for and I'm really taking charge of my future.

      2) While I still struggle a little from time to time, I am FAR less depressed than I used to be a few years ago, or even 1 year ago. I'm enjoying my life right now relatively well.

      3) I'm surrounded by beautiful, huge mountains to hike on and escape from civilization.

      4) I have a great relationship with my mom and especially my sister.

      5) I have awesome, considerate and intelligent friends to associate with.

      - I have a roof over my head and my own bedroom.

      - I have somebody I can share everything and anything with.

      - Technology and electricity. Really miss it when there's a blackout.

      - My artistic learning abilities.

      - Food.

I guess this could help... Though I feel some babbling coming on...

      1) The fact that my parents finally decided 100% to keep the dog. (I love you, Sparrow. <3)
      2) The fact that concert tickets seem to be an unbreakable promise in my family. You have a ticket, you find a way to go at all costs. (furthermore, this means when I buy that ticket on Wednesday for the show in Atlanta, nothing's gonna stop me from at least having some kind of vacation this summer.)
      3) The fact that my best friend is awesome and is basically trying to help me figure any way to make the rest of my vacation work. (ways include getting a job in Indiana, continuing my ways of not eating, and our crazy evil thoughts. Though those are mainly for fun.)
      4) The fact that tattoo ink allergies are extremely rare. Same for sharpie allergies. (Else I would have no arms. Or legs.)
      5) My nails. Are shiny. And silver. (I feel this is something that I should always be thanksful for. Oh, how I love you, my little liquid bottle of chrome awesomeness.)
      6) I find injuries to be interesting. (this is helpful, since I tend to get many papercuts when I try to find my picture in the dictionary next to the word "clutz.") (Also helpful for those many moments when I impale myself on the triangle from hell I have to use in Interior design. I did that earlier today, I just laughed.)
      7) I don't live in Antarctica. (Another thing I feel I shall always be grateful for. Cold is bad. Very bad. I would like to visit someday, however.)
      8) My roommate has not yet killed me for my lack of organization. (This is important because if not, I would likely be very, very dead right now.)
      9) Nutella. (similarly, Italy, the wonderful country that introduced me to this most delicious treat.)
      10) The Italian Language. (Allowing me to feel awesome about the fact that while everyone else was stuck with the only choice of foreign language in their school being Spanish, I took Italian. Bellissima.)
      11) The fact that instead of having to sit around a table and pretensively say "I am thankful for my family and that we are so blessed to be together on this day" as though it were Thanksgiving, I can babble on about the little awesome things that I am thankful for, like the aforementioned silver nail polish, and my utmost joy of the fact that like I said, I do not live in Antarctica. (this doesn't have parenthesis yet. It bothers me.)
      12) The websites CuteOverload and Cakewrecks. (Cute animals and epic fail FTW!)
      13) The fact that no matter which song out of my list of choices I choose for my tattoo, I will probably be able to show the finished product to whichever band owns whichever song I choose eventually, since country is a fairly fan-friendly genra. (and that some people I know tend to find connections to... like.. everyone....)
      14) My own creativity. (Without it, my headphone wires would be boring and tangled, I would have never made art, and I would not know what frozen orange juice with frozen grapes in it tastes like.)

      Thatt'l do for now.

-Having not only a roof over my head and food in my belly, but also nice things. For as much as my family has struggled financially over the post-Clinton years, we've still managed to get our hands on all the next-gen video game consoles and a big-ass wide screen TV to go along with 'em.

-Having hands (i.e., the ability to play music). No matter how depressed or angry I'm feeling, picking up my bass is a surefire way to put me in a better mood. By extension, I'm grateful for having been born with a "natural ear", as my friends call it. It makes composing music as easy as drawing a picture.

-Having a family that I can stand. It seems like it's "the popular thing to do" nowadays to have a shitty-ass relationship with your parents in particular, and I just don't have that. I'm grateful that I was born humble enough to realize that without these people, I'd be nothing, unlike most of the ungrateful little pricks who give their parents such grief.

-Having a job. I don't particularly like my job, but at least I have one. After highschool, I was putting in apps everywhere, but none of the places I applied to so much as gave me a rejection letter. Wasn't till '08 that I got the job I have now.

-Having good friends that I'm still close to, even after high school. It seems that most high school friendships start to deteriorate once you start college, but let me tell you, sharing visions, goals and dreams with your friends sure does help to keep your friendship alive.

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

1 - I am grateful that you are all here to share in the gift that is existence with me.

2 - I am grateful for having my family, who I owe everything to.

3 - I am grateful for my close friends, those who I call my brothers and sisters.

4 - I am grateful to be in a positive state of mind.

5 - I am grateful for all of the trials I have overcome, and the lessons I have learned.

6 - I am grateful for being who I am.

7 - I am grateful for the peace I have.

8 - I am grateful for being free.

9 - I am grateful that I am moving forward in life.

      10 - I am grateful that I am grateful.

I almost said that, but thought better of it.

I am grateful for my supportive parents. Without them, I would not even be close to my current scholarly prowess, nor would I be as free to make something out of myself on my own. I would not have any status at all if they had not supported me.

I am grateful that technology has advanced to the point where I can find an open-minded, intelligent group of individuals in the space of a few clicks.

That being said, I am grateful for places like DV that attract such a large following of intelligent people who can actually listen, rather than immediately dismiss new information that does not conform to their worldview.

After my recent trip to Spain, I am extremely thankful for the invention of language, and the fact that I can understand at least one spoken language. Without it, it would be impossible for humans to communicate. Being unable to understand nearly everything said to me for a solid week has shown me the importance of language far beyond what most people can imagine.

I'm going to try some more, less obvious ones:

      -I'm grateful for music

-That I haven't given up yet and don't plan to ever

-For always having a chance to eat fantastic food (especially sushi)

-For still having our pretty kitty, always entertaining us

-For the most part being able to do whatever I want, including nothing at all

I'm grateful for my artistic ability...
      My family...
      My health...
      My work ethic...
      My ability to lucid dream.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

      I'm grateful for:

      -My wonderful girlfriend; she's amazing.
      -Grammar, especially British English grammar.
-My parents—without them, there'd be no me. Plus they're actually pretty great, as parents go. Being twenty, I can finally say this.
-Generosity and caring. My sister is going through a rough patch, and all kinds of people are coming out of the woodwork to help.
-Friends, near and far, that are true friends. You know who you are. You make life a happier place to live.
-My adoptive brothers and sisters. Err, that is, friends so close we think of each other as siblings. Felt the need to separate this from the above.
-Spell-check in modern web browsers. I always want to misspell 'separate' with two 'e's and it always lets me know not to with that little red underline.
-Webcomics, like xkcd, OotS and RPC. Laughter is the best medicine.
-Music, from The Last Shadow Puppets to Aerosmith to Toby Keith to Elton John to Within Temptation.
-Food. I'm hungry right now, but I know I have food to eat if I want to go fix it. Thanks to my parents.
-Dreams! I had some crazy dreams today. I love my dreams.
-Random events. They make me realize that life is actually pretty damn interesting.
-Books, especially those by British authors.
      -Intriguing and thought-provoking movies.
-Self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-esteem. The three steps toward becoming a better person.
-Telephones, without which I'd have a hard time staying in touch with most people I know.

      1) I am grateful for my family (of course) I cannot live a day without their love and support.

      2) My friends, it's nonstop laughing and good times.

      3) My iPod, sounds weird but I NEED music. It helps me through the day so I cherish my iPod.

      4) My computer, without it I would not have not been to exposed to amazing opportunities and things (ex: lucid dreaming)

      5) Overall, my life. I am happy I was brought to Earth. At some times I doubt my existence but I normally end up realizing that I have a pretty amazing life.

I'm grateful for my cute little puppy.

I'm grateful that I'm not mentally impaired.

I'm grateful that I could walk, because a lot of people take that for granted. Not being able to walk is like being a bird without wings

I'm grateful for my brother and my Aunt, the two greatest people in my world.

I'm grateful for my friends, every single one of them, for dealing with my major crap.
