So do we have any actual 4Channers here on DV? I've taken a look once or twice, but I've never posted.
And now.. for a Stephen Strutmeyer Film...

I think I remember browsing /c/ or something, but never /b/. I should. Seems like fun. Until the bit where it isn't.

I'm sure there's lots of people that visit 4chan around here.

      Also, lol at SummeroftheAnon

Not true in any respect. A lot of anons practice lucid dreaming - an interesting note being I found lucid dreaming and then this community through 4chan

It was a good speech he gave - a lot of people do tend to just focus on the bad coming out of 4chan, simply because the media likes to pick out all the bad they can from everywhere they can. While I will admit, there is a fairly low good:bad ratio on 4chan compared to a lot of communities, you also have to remember that 4chan is a LOT more open than any of those communities, and yet still has a generally better management of the boards than other communities.

And, of course, the general amount of good that comes from 4chan, and having an anonymous board to go to. I used to just go there and look at the various comic strips when I felt like there was really nothing else worth doing.

      Feels good man.

I was a /b/tard for a while, visiting /b/ every day or so for a few months 3 years ago. I stopped though and went to SomethingAwful instead. More or less everything that is posted on /b/ is taken from the SomethingAwful or Facepunch forums anyway.

If you use the site for more than /b/, it's really not that bad. There ARE other boards, but some people don't realize it.

The wallpaper and cooking boards are what I frequent the most, sometimes paranormal as well. /b/ is just... well, it's too much of a rarity to find anything good anymore. I grew sick of it long ago. It's fanbase is annoying. Very annoying.

I still occasionally browse /b/, and might even consider myself a /b/tard, although it's very true, the cancer there is basically terminal, and it's not nearly as funny as it was in the past, although it still generates a few good laughs from time to time.

I do frequent the other boards of 4chan pretty often, though. I would have to say that my favorites are the video games board (/v/) and the technology board (/g/).

Yeah, you do have to marvel at what they've done. They've brought down what is essentially a cult, and through the power of sheer shock and awe have fought for the protection of net neutrality and freedom of speech (even though they themselves probably don't know or care enough).

Watching the speech, I was actually really proud of the guy for speaking out about the value of anonymity. It's something we need to treasure, because anonymous communities are wonderful things - and something that could be lost forever if we let censorship and the 'facebook generation' have its way.

To be honest he didn't really make any points at all. Somebody said 'isn't providing total anonymity dangerous?' and he said 'myeahhh maybe' and that was it. :l

Yup, pretty much. It is cool to watch him talk though. Afterall, he's really just a kid who ripped off a japanese imageboard

I looked into the 4chan boards once very briefly upon suggestion from a classmate. And I did so during class.
I never got into it 'cause I wasn't about to deal with content I didn't want to see (i.e. unnecessary pr0n, general over-the-top unfunny idiocy, all of which is actually just hearsay in my experience) just to get to something funny/memes.

But times are changing and so am I!

Just watched the video, and as I commented on the actual video, he's no public speaker by any means, but he provides a nice introduction to the uninitiated for 4chan.

And now I'm thinking I might just hit it up. We'll see. ;D

      And thanks, Mario92. *salute*

The /v/ board (video games) gives a generally much better experience than /b/. Aslong as you're into video games of course.

/x/ isn't bad, either. Most boards other than /b/ are pretty clean, really.

Just looked into /adv/, pretty cool so far, found some funny here.
Btw avoid /gif/ if you're in a mixed-company area. Curiosity killed my eyes!

Personally I love 4chan, and if the end of the world were to come, I think people would still go to 4chan if not flock there more than before (lol). The only reason I don't go to 4chan is cause I don't want to get hacked.

That last part of your post really goes to show how gullible people can be. 4chan can't hack you unless you let them hack you.

It's full of bored reject script kiddies that can't distribute a virus through normal methods, and so have to trick people using colorful images to download it themselves and bypass their antivirus software.

Never do what the images say.

The guys no amazing speaker but it was interesting to hear him speak...

You could notice the serious hesitation there was when he was asking whether total anonymity was dangerous... None the less... that Dusty the cat thing was seriously scary.. (48 Hours from the frames on a youtube video)

But it was interesting to see the community come together to find the "culprit"...
