moot, owner of 4chan, speaks at TED

So the owner and creator of 4chan got a chance to talk a little about anonymity and 4chan on TED.

It doesn't say many things, though it is interesting to watch him talk. Check it out!

      That's actually pretty cool.
I know 4chan is known for some pretty bad stuff, but when you really look into it you can see they do some very amazing things.

Awesome how they got that vote thing to get him to the top as well as spell out cake or whatever.

And get dusty's owner arrested within 48 hours using only the evidece provided in the YouTube video. That's actually pretty damn impressive.

And quite scary when you think about it .__ .

Knowing they can find you just from a youtube video.

Yeah, true. Of course they had about 20,000 people working on it. Note to self: NEVER piss off 4chan.

I just realized, remember when mario's spam empire was "break the world record for most posts in a thread"? 4chan could do that in a couple weeks, probably less. Is there something stopping this, or has there actually been not one person to think to do that?

There's probably been a lot of people to try that. I think things go by so fast there it wouldn't last unless someone really got it organized.

Imagine if lucid dreaming became a 4chan pastime.
That would be... interesting, to say the least.

Of course it is. But this is more the fault of the bigness of 4chan. The trolls all feed off each other and reach new heights of flaming. In a community like DV there will probably be an equal ratio but they can be banned and often will. 4chan isn't as good with the number of people.

      Yea, that was interesting.

I also liked the talks by Craig Newmark of Craigslist:

Personally I find four-chan interesting. Especially Project Tit-Storm. It makes me think that they will preserve the right to freedom of speech should it ever be threatened in this country. (Or any other country for that matter.)

Meh, if anything, things like 4chan discredit freedom of speech by degrading its value.

I really don't think the two 14 year old kids who go on 4chan will "preserve the right to freedom of speech should it ever be threatened in this country. (Or any other country for that matter.)"

I love that dude, and strange though this may sound, I'm really starting to dig 4Chan. It really is quite fascinating. This was one of the most interesting videos I've seen in a long time. to 4Chan, those crazy, meme-generating bastards. Somehow, a life without lolcats or Scientology protests seems so much bleaker...
