      Windows 9x/ME

      Anyone else have this problem?

      Oh you poor thing!!!
As part of my job, I support all of the windows OS's back to 95

I will give my ranking of them on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being good

      95 - 3
      98 - 7
      ME - 4
      NT - 8
      2000 - 9
      2000 Professional - 9.5
      XP Home - 9
      XP Professional - 10

I was SO glad when I got a new computer last year with XP Home and gave my old 98 computer to my daughter!

I'm guessing you aren't a fan of Windows

Oh well. Windows is okay, once you get used to those great super fun random crashes.

YAY! Im so glad I got a new computer. The windows home one. How is the professional one different?

BTW, My computer is built by compaq or whatever and my cousin said Im gonna have a hard time using it/its going to piss me off. Anyone know what tha hell he meant.

I could ask him, but I dont want to. When I did ask him before he got me confused with technical terms and then just got into the conversation of how his computer is "better"

Come on, it's a feature of windows. If we didn't have crashes, you'd finally discover what a peice of rubbish you bought for $200 or something. That's why there are crashes to make sure you always stay distracted from the fact that Windows sucks. Badly.

Hey, I like that. I'm going to keep that. "There are crashes in Windows to distract you from the fact that Windows sucks anyway".

i believe the professional one has extra network stuff that you don't need.

Windows XP Professional includes "Adminstration Tools" for networks. That's one of the "main" things in Professional. Also, it includes lots of other things you don't need unless you happen to be a geek that likes creating networks. It's just not worth the extra money.

Professional gives you more network options.
More account options (home has admin and user only)
      Support for encryption
Support for more than one CPU.

My system at work is a dual 2.4Ghz Xeon with 1024Mb of RAM.
Two 60Gig SCSI RAIDed 7200 RMP drives.

      It Kicks!

Home's just fine for me, because I don't have a extremely important network (just a nice, simple wireless one that took me 5 minutes to set up), I don't have super important data that I just *need* encrypted because it's bound to become public with all those security holes in Windows, and I only have 1 CPU.

More user options? I used to have Professional (until I lost the cd ) and I don't recall there being any more user options than Admin and User?

Are you on about those users like "Power User, Backup User" or whatever? You can access them in Home Edition with a bit of trouble, I think.

I used to like Win98. I have had XP Pro for a while a well but I used 98 for most of my work/games. However, I have stopped using Win98 now since it started causing problems with my new harddrive and I couldn't reinstall it because I had to much memory (which is a weird problem) so I went over to XP completely. But as people here have forgotten to mention, XP and some computers doesn't like each other and 2k and some comp's doesn't like each other and my computer just happens to be one of those that XP doesn't like. So once I get back home I'm going to install 2k to see if it works better, and if it doesn't I just have to remove some memory, install Win98 and then put back the memory again.
(Sorry, I guess that was way off topic.)

Oh, and ME is the worst windows I have ever seen.

Well it turns out I was wrong. My computer doesn't dislike XP after all, it was just dust on the RAM.

      Update:
A Lost Soul is now running WinXP Home and hasn't had a problem with it (other than the pirated CD key *cough*--which has been dealt with and corrected already). She also has a much faster system thanks to her brother.
