Cheap replacement for NovaDreamer / REM Dreamer

I'm trying to make an effective low cost replacement for the NovaDreamer...

Below are videos that are to be played while you are asleep. Like the NovaDreamer these videos flicker a light and use a vocal cue to prompt you to do a reality check. The frequency will be every 3 minutes and go for a duration of 16 seconds (. Your video player must be on full screen and in 'repeat' mode in order to work properly. How you get your screen bright enough to be effective is your business. I'm going to use a projector facing me to increase the light on my eyes. This means freedom from sleep goggles, which is a plus!

To get an idea of what the light would look like while sleeping I would suggest you watch the video in a dark room and have your eyes closed and face up to the screen. You'll see how the light penetrates your eyelids.

As you may have noticed I have provided no way to detect REM. My suggestion would be to either have it run all night or find a program that allows you to run a command/script to which you can specify the video player and file. For example, I run Linux and have the KAlarm program set to execute the command below 2.5 hours after I fall sleep and have it run the rest of the night.

      Code:
      mplayer -fs -loop 0 /home/user/Videos/RealityCheck_v2.ogv
I thought about putting binaural beats in the background but decided against it as I think after a long enough time the mind might filter external sounds and thus hamper the vocal cues.

I made sure that no OS was left behind. Right click on the link and choose 'save as' and run in your favorite video player.

I updated the videos to play in wide screen so they will fit most screens better and provide more light. I noticed that my laptop just might be bright enough if I have it on my bed next to me and sleep on my side facing it.

I noticed that the links want to be saved as htm files so I made a YouTube video. You can then download the YouTube video onto your computer:

Comments and ideas would be appreciated. This is a just a starter program and I could use the help.
