Hey Qwer,
Sleep Cycle is very inaccurate, I did a fair bit of study on it a few months ago.
It is more likely to wake you up at the end of an REM cycle, because it takes time to sample to data to test if you are in REM.
There a more apps coming which will be much better for lucid dreaming, but there isn't any good ones out there yet.
Your rem period is a moving target. It depends on the food you eat(when/what), as well as the amount of light you see before going to bed. Most rem times are given as "after sleep onset". If you are stressed or excited it will take longer to fall asleep. That program does not give you rem times or the sleep onset latency
What sleep cycle does is it plots your activity overnight and tries to wake you up in a light sleep that follows Rem episode. This is when it is easiest to wake up.
What you need for deild is to wake up in the middle of rem. this is much tougher to detect.
