EILD Using alarm sound as a trigger for an LD

I recently purchased DreamZ, an app for the iPhone that maps your sleep cycles at night and provides audio cues in order to help you have a lucid dream. I tried using some of the built in audio cues in it with no success. If I played it too loud I would wake up and if it was too low nothing would happen. Now on most days, I wake up the the song Glorious Morning by Waterflame. So I decided to try using that song as a trigger sound. The result was that it actually worked, I became lucid during the dream. My guess is that your brain must somehow relate your everyday alarm sound to being awake and conscious so when it played I became lucid. What happened when you became lucid? Did you hear the song while you were dreaming? How come it didn't wake you up this time? Was the volume lower than usual?

Yes, anything that is related to increasing awareness in the brain can be used to lucid dream. Yesterday night for example I set an alarm to wake me for MILD, unfortunately I had become lucid already and the alarm woke me from my dream :P. I think my brain had the intention of waking up and did so partially before the alarm had gone, similar to how you sometimes wake up before your alarm in the morning. This happens to be called the CAT method, maybe there is something to it.
I guess the same could have happened with yourself, you heard the noise but knew that you only wanted to wake up in the dream and so it provided just that. Often even the thought of a noise that I don't really recognize wakes me up, a noise that you recognize works so much better.

When I became lucid I did not hear the song in my dream, although my dream scape was sort of like a fresh morning as I flew around so I guess maybe it could have influenced my dream. Although on another occasion I did actually experience having a sound enter the dream, it was while using another app that basically had a voice say "You are dreaming" at random points throughout the night. In the dream I remember my sister suddenly turning around and saying to me, "You are dreaming" and I became lucid. However I think they changed the voice in an update and it stopped working for me. That's why I now use DreamZ.
I believe it didn't wake me up because the volume was actually much lower than usual and because the brain is expecting to wake up at certain time. The trigger sound probably sounded at another point throughout the night.
