I've been drinking kratom tea regularly now (taking a day or so off to prevent my tolerance from building up too quickly), and am able to get some nice effects at around 3 grams (I think I'm pretty sensitive to psychoactive substances, so I need less to feel effects). I find that it helps me relax, and get into the right mood for dreaming (clears the mind, helps relieve tension, calming, soothing, lets you enjoy things more than usual, etc), so I've had a few vivid dreams after taking Kratom. However, this may just be an indirect effect of taking it; perhaps it does not directly induce the vivid dreams or lucidity, but rather, simply "clears the path" for it to occur.

If I were you, I'd avoid the ones in smoke shops (the quality is hit and miss), and purchase it online, from a reputable herbal supplier. Do some more research into it; there are plenty of Kratom resources out there.

As for the overall effects, I find that it functions much like a weak painkiller (ie hydrocodone) but with much milder effects, not as habit forming, and far far less addictive. Tolerance can shoot up pretty quickly though, so be careful with that. Furthermore, I've had problems with nausea at higher doses (around 10-12 grams or so), and I find that it can stifle the libido quite a bit (much like opioids). As with any other substance/supplement, YMMV, and you always take this at your own risk.

I took Kratom once. I was slipping in and out of the dreamstate. it was a very weird thing actually. I had a hard time discerning if things are really happening or if i was dreaming. It did not instantly offer lucidity. When i snapped out of it however, i felt quite energetic and i realized i'd rather do mushrooms instead
